Earlier, it was Naval Air Station (NAS) Shibpur. INS Kohassa has been named after a White-Bellied Sea Eagle, which is a large bird of prey, endemic to Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Indian Navy said. NAS Shibpur was established in 2001 as a Forward Operating Air Base (FOAB) for enhanced surveillance in North Andaman. The close proximity of Coco Islands (Myanmar) and wide expanse of Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) makes the base a very vital asset. The airfield provides sustained detached operations of Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and Coast Guard aircraft. The Air Station presently operates Short Range Maritime reconnaissance (SRMR) aircrafts and helicopters. These aircrafts undertake EEZ surveillance, Anti-poaching Mission , Search and Rescue (SAR) and Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions within ANC are of responsibilities. The missile destroyed a low flying aerial target paving way for its deployment in the armed forces. A defence official termed the mission highly successful. “The missile was fired for the first time from the Kolkata-class stealth guided missile destroyer ship of the Indian Navy. It achieved all mission parameters. Apart from the missile, the system includes a multi functional surveillance and threat alert radar for detection, tracking and guidance of the missile. The radar provides users the capability to track down any aerial threats. The trajectory of the state-of-the-art advanced missile was throughout tracked and monitored by radars and electro-optical systems. The test validated all the elements related to naval and land-based variants of the missile including the phased array radar, battle management system, communications and the interceptor. Both Israel and Indian scientists and technicians were involved in the launch of the weapon system. The missile having an operational range of 75 km can destroy airborne threats like jets, aircraft, anti-ship missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and rockets including projectiles launched simultaneously. The missile has a length of about 4.5 metre, a diameter of 0.54 metre, wingspan of 0.94 metre and weighs around 275 kg including a 60 kg warhead which detonates at proximity. The stories were translated by Tejaswini Niranjana, who shared the prize and the generous purse of USD 25,000. The award was announced at the Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet. This is the second big literary prize, after the JCB Literature Prize (won by Malayalam writer Benyamin’s Jasmine Days), that has recently been awarded to a translation. In its announcement, the jury said “it was deeply impressed by the quiet voice of the author through which he presented vignettes of life in Mumbai and made the city the protagonist of a coherent narrative. The Mumbai that came across through the pen of Kaikini was the city of ordinary people. It is a view from the margins and all the more poignant because of it. This is the first time that this award is being given to a translated work.” Source- IndianExpress : indianembassyjakarta.com : IndianEmbJkt : IndiaInIndonesia : IndianEmbJkt 3 MISSION ACTIVITIES : indianembassyjakarta.com : IndianEmbJkt : IndiaInIndonesia : IndianEmbJkt 4 MISSION ACTIVITIES 1st India Indonesia Pharmaceutical and Health Industry Forum (IIPHIF) held in Jakarta In partnership with Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) & Indonesian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KADIN) the 1st India Indonesia Pharmaceutical and Health Industry Forum was hosted by Embassy of India at Hotel Westin on 24th January, 2019.
