The Sheridan Expressway has one Y pair of on- and off-ramps that provide WA access to Westchester Avenue, a major HUTCHINSON PARKWAY commercial corridor in the area. Traffic SHERIDAN on the expressway, which operates below EXPRESS WAY ONX RIVER RIVER ONX PARKWAY 50 percent of capacity during peak rush R B BRUCKNER EXPRESS hour, is relatively light in comparison to other roadways in the area. The southern entrance to Starlight Park is to the right. 9 The City Study History In the 1940s, when Robert Moses first planned the Sheridan Expressway, it was intended to extend from the Bruckner Expressway northward past the Bronx Zoo and into Westchester County, creating a direct connection between the Triborough/Robert F. Kennedy Bridge and the New England Thruway. However, strong community opposition prevented the completion of the original plan.
