18/01/2021 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 Allan Tøing is a prey normal, unassuming guy. The 45-year-old, from Aalborg, in FORD MUSTANG Denmark has a well respectable and WHO? professional job as a pilot on a private business jet, and has never been one for MACH 1 hanging around in car parks, ogling modified Astras and the like. In fact, up unl a few years ago he'd only ever owned what he describes as “normal cars”-Mazdas, Opels, you know the sort. But he'd always had a hankering for something from our transatlanc cousins. Something big, loud, and strong. A muscle car, basically. More specifically, a 1st gen Mustang. But every me he'd gone out to try and find one in Denmark, he'd been disappointed, and they just hadn't been quite right. Aer some targeted bullying by mate Steen, Allan was pointed towards blocket.se, which led to him finding this car the very same day. Only problem was, it was in Sweden. But it was a '69, AND a big block, so he couldn't let the opportunity to at least go and look pass him by. In Allan's own words- I hadn't planned to go all in, and geng a big block - but all of a sudden, I found her, and I was prey sure that I'd buy her just from seeing the photos. I made arrangements with the owner to drop by some days later, and aer a test drive and kicking the res we made a deal, and I picked her up some days later” Wrien by: Si McNally I Photography by: Mike Crawat 18/01/2021 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 So what's so special about Allan's 'Stang? Well, for a start it's a '69, which is the very first year for the iconic, and very muscular indeed, Mach 1. On top of that, it's a mega-rare Cobra Jet version, which meant 335bhp and 400 lb/ of torque, seeing 0-60mph in just 5.5 seconds and a ¼ mile me of sub 14 seconds. Even now that's prey quick, but in the late '60s, WHAT? it was earth shaering. This, then, is the very epitome of a muscle car. Allan's car is prey much stock. It has a Speed Demon uprated 4-barrel carb setup, which works with the legit, original Shaker scoop on the bonnet, which is cool as hell, as well as providing even more lovely cold air. With the stock brakes less than impressive, an upgrade was required, and the brush 'Stang now stops on a dime thanks to a set of uprated Volvo stoppers, as well as being lowered “about an inch”, to improve what lile handling the car has. The reason this example looks so good, is that it was fully restored back in 2005 by Swedish rally driver, Roger Berglund. It was Roger that brought the Mach 1 over from the US originally, and Allan has imagery documenng the enre rebuild process. All 2000 hours of it. Colour wise, it's actually a Dodge Viper colour, which replaced the original Candy Apple Red, and the paint is as good now as it was when it came out of the gun 15-years-ago. Testament to the standard of work. Wrien by: Si McNally I Photography by: Mike Crawat 18/01/2021 FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 If you want a Mach 1, you're going to have to dig deep. There's current a 428 Mach 1 Cobra Jet project up for sale, which is in need of a full resto and lots of parts, for £25k. For an example as good as Allan's, you're looking at more like £75k, with flawless “Drag Pack” WHERE examples nudging £100k. Luckily for Alan, he actually has another 428 Mach 1 Cobra Jet tucked away in his garage, which is even more original than this one. Which seems greedy… HOW Allan's car was shot by Mike Crawat-one of Europe's foremost photographers of incredible cars. You can check out his work over at www.mikecrawat.com.
