Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow has emerged as the premier medical Institute providing high quality Medical services and Research activities on the national and international medical arena. During the year 2011-2012, there has been a tremendous growth and expansion in the Institute which is documented and read out in each Department's Report printed herein. The PMSSY wing has been activated where in the department of Pulmonary Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Molecular Medicine, and Reproductive Health were established. Thirty one broad and super specialty courses in area of Medical and Surgical, Laboratory services and Radiation sciences were rolled out during the year in the Institute. 643 nos beds along with 110 nos ICU/HDU/MICU beds along with 137 Nos, other beds 30 emergency beds totaling to 920 beds were made available in the hospital. 103 renal transplants were performed in this year 2011. The upcoming Trauma Centre of SGPGIMS level III has been initiated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The institute has been recently being made the nodal centre for the national organ procurement and transplant network. IGNOU and Ministry of the Health Govt. of India has appointed SGPGIMS as a programme study centre for their certificate course in Dialysis management. The Central Govt. has also proposed to setup Paramedical Training Centre at the institute shortly. Free bus services for patients and their attends from main gate to OPD and back have been started, ATM of State Bank of India have been installed at two places in the Institute campus. A major facility which was extended to the patients this year was the provision of paying the bills through Debit/Credit cards which was a very felt need of the patients. Rogi Mitras were appointed in the OPD for helping/guiding/assisting patients in the hospital free of cost. Many volunteers turned up to offer their services as Rogi Mitras on honorary basis. SGPGIMS has been ranked 7th among the Indian Universities for their research output and quality using new performance index. It is ranked first in Medical institution all over India. ➤ [ 1 Annual Report, SGPGIMS 2011-2012 The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India granted corpus of Rs.50.0 lacs for patients Below Poverty Line. Cancer aid Funds corpus of Rs.10 lacs also provided by the Ministry. The Kamdhenu Ati Nirdhan Sahayata Samiti which was established with Rs.1 core aid from State Govt had current corpus of Rs.17.75 crores mainly supported from the HRF profits. More than1200 patients have been benefited by the society this year. Active ongoing projects nearing completion are the Centre for hepatic-biliary diseases and transplantation, hematology and stem cell transplant, Animal house, Library building and lecture theatre complex, Trauma centre and the college of Technology. I have full hope that the Institute will scale newer heights and set new benchmarks for others to follow. There needs to be a concerted effort on the part of faculty members, Resident doctors, Research Scholars, Officers, staff and other employees together in providing the services of high quality patient care. The Central and State Government would continue to support us monetarily in carrying out the developmental activities of the Institute and for their maintenance and progress.
