LSU FOOTBALL POSTGAME NOTES LSU vs Arkansas Nov. 12, 2016 – Reynolds Razorback Stadium (Fayetteville, Ark.) • LSU’s game captains were #77 Ethan Pocic, #40 Duke Riley, #92 Lewis Neal, and #83 Travin Dural. • LSU won the toss and deferred to the second half. LSU kicked off and defended the North endzone. • For a record 17th consecutive season LSU is now bowl eligible. • With the 38-10 victory tonight LSU evened the series and is now 2-2 against Arkansas in Fayetteville. The meeting vs the Razorback in Fayetteville for just the fifth time. The teams also played in Fayetteville in 1992 (Arkansas won 30-6), in 2012 (LSU won 20-13) and 2014 (Arkansas won 17-0). • With the LSU victory over Arkansas the Tigers reclaim the “The Boot,” a 24-karat gold trophy in the shape of the states of Arkansas and Louisiana that resembles a boot. LSU has won the trophy 13 times - 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016 while Arkansas has claimed the trophy 8 times 1998, 2000, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2015. • LSU’s defense has allowed only 10 touchdowns after 9 games this season. • With a scoreless 1st quarter for Arkansas, it marked the fifth first quarter shutout this season by the LSU defense in 9 games. At that point in the game LSU defense has held opposition without points in 6 of last 7 quarters (2 vs. Ole Miss, 3 vs. Alabama, and 1 Arkansas). Individual Notes: • Derrius Guice had a career day with 21 carries for 252 yards. His 96-yard TD run during the fourth quarter was the longest play from scrimmage in school history. The previous long run was 94 yards by Sal Nicolo vs. Rice in 1952 and Jesse Fatheree vs. Georgia in 1935. The longest reception in school history was a 94- yard pass from Anthony Jennings to Travin Dural in 2014 vs. Sam Houston State. • Guice’s 252 yards is the second most in school history behind only Leonard Fournette’s 284-yard game earlier this season vs. Ole Miss. • Guice’s two rushing TDs today give him 12 for his career in only 21 games. • Leonard Fournette’s three rushing touchdown performance tonight moved him into a tie for third place with Charles Alexander (1975-78) with 40 career rushing touchdowns. His runs of 5, 7 and 3 yards was the sixth time he has 3 or more rushing TDs for Fournette in his career. Fournette finished with 17 carries for 98 yards. • Arden Key’s sack for 7 yards in the first half was his ninth sack of the season. Key is now only three sacks away from tying the single-season LSU record. • Donnie Alexander interception with :53 remaining in the first quarter was the first of his career. Alexander returned the interception 14 yards to the Arkansas 18-yard line. The play was Alexander’s first series on defense at the middle linebacker position for the game. • Dwayne Thomas interception in the middle of the fourth quarter was the second of his career. His first interception was during the 2014 season. • Kendell Beckwith’s 4th quarter fumble recovery in the endzone was the third of his career. He finished the day with five tackles and two pass breakups. Beckwith has 90 tackles in nine games during the 2016 season. .
