AMENDED IN ASSEMBLY AUGUST 22, 2016 california legislature—2015–16 regular session House Resolution No. 62 Introduced by Assembly Member Achadjian (Coauthors: Assembly Members Nazarian Chu, Levine, Medina, Nazarian, and Wilk) August 11, 2016 House Resolution No. 62ÐRelative to the Navasartian Games. line 1 WHEREAS, The Armenian General Athletic Union and Scouts, line 2 referred to as Homenetmen, is a nonpro®t organization with 30,000 line 3 members in ®ve continents. Homenetmen was founded in 1918, line 4 and currently has 18 chapters with over 7,000 members in the line 5 Western Region of the United States; and line 6 WHEREAS, It is Homenetmen's mission to prepare exemplary line 7 and law abiding citizens by providing physical and health line 8 education, endowing the mind and soul with the ®nest spirit of line 9 sportsmanship, and developing and understanding responsibility line 10 and honor; and line 11 WHEREAS, Since the ®rst chapter in the United States was line 12 established in Los Angeles in 1968, Homenetmen has provided line 13 Armenian American youth with moral, physical, and social line 14 education and has exposed the youth to the Armenian culture and line 15 heritage. The Homenetmen experience is one of lasting association, line 16 altruism, and benevolence, and Homenetmen's motto, ªElevate line 17 yourself and others with you,º is a constant reminder of the line 18 fundamental objective of this organization; and line 19 WHEREAS, Homenetmen in the Western United States has line 20 over 3,200 athletic members who compete in local league 98 HR 62 Ð 2 Ð line 1 competitions as well as major regional athletic programs. These line 2 programs are organized and implemented with the help of many line 3 sel¯ess parent volunteers who help put programs together for line 4 basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and ®eld, tennis, swimming, line 5 gymnastics, chess, karate, and table tennis; and line 6 WHEREAS, The Homenetmen athletic program eschews line 7 epitomizes the spirit of competition, sportsmanship, and teamwork, line 8 while it instills a strong sense of individual identity; and line 9 WHEREAS, The Homenetmen scouting program provides the line 10 Armenian American youth with moral, physical, and social line 11 education, exposes scouts to the wealth and treasure of the line 12 Armenian culture and heritage, and strives to prepare outstanding line 13 law abiding Armenian American citizens; and line 14 WHEREAS, Among the most prestigious medals that any line 15 Homenetmen scout is able to earn is the St. Mesrob emblem. line 16 Introduced in conjunction with the Western Prelacy of the line 17 Armenian Apostolic Church and the Boy Scouts of America, this line 18 emblem honors the ®fth century inventor of the Armenian alphabet, line 19 Mesrop Mashtots; and line 20 WHEREAS, The annual Navasartian Games, Homenetmen's line 21 largest athletic event, comprise numerous sports, including line 22 basketball, volleyball, soccer, ping-pong, ping pong, track and line 23 ®eld, swimming, chess, and softball; now, therefore, be it line 24 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the line 25 Assembly recognizes the signi®cance of youth sports and the line 26 Navasartian Games' impact on Armenian American youth living line 27 in California and throughout the United States; and be it further line 28 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies line 29 of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
