Mango Mania Display Contest Dazzles U.S. Grocery Stores

PRESS RELEASE Orlando, Fla – The results are in for the National Mango Board’s (NMB) eighth annual Mango Mania Display Contest. Participating retailers –big and small, built beautiful and impressive displays that delighted and educated consumers in grocery stores nationwide. Over $8,000 in incentives were awarded to the winning stores. Every store was a winner of a $15 digital gift card just by entering the contest. Plus, stores that included Tajín in their displays received a second $15 digital gift card. These incentives created great buzz throughout produce departments across the country. Stores were encouraged to use NMB’s point-of-sale (POS) materials that showcased selection, cutting, and nutrition messages to educate shoppers; as well as use their own creativity and props into the catchy displays. The NMB received 135 eligible entries, which were judged based on creativity of the display, visual appeal, and effectiveness in educating customers about mangos. “It is always amazing to see how the mango love is spread through all the grocery stores that participated in the contest,” stated Valda Coryat, Director of Marketing at the NMB. “The competition was fierce! But it certainly showed us that retailers are excited to promote mangos. This contest is always a great way to get retailer engagement as well as boost mango sales and movement.” The top winners in each category include: 1 to 6 registers 1st Place, $1,000 prize: Jackie Hanson, Broulim’s, Shelley, ID 2nd Place, $800 prize: Christopher Payne, Clifton Market Cooperative, Cincinnati, OH 3rd Place, $600 prize: David Dozier, GFF Foods, Moore, OK 4th Place, $400 prize: Robert Eaken, Winn Dixie, Tampa, FL Honorable Mentions, $200 prize each: Elaine Barlow, Bee's Marketplace, Centennial Park, AZ Alex Frazier, Rouses #15, Houma, LA FreshFruitPortal.com Julia Johnson, Elrod's Cost Plus, Dallas, TX Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 6, Arlington, TX Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 7, Arlington, TX Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 9, Fort Worth, TX Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 51, Dallas, TX Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 54, Waxahachie, TX Karlee Osner, Hired Man's Grocery & Grill, Inc., Conway Springs, KS FreshFruitPortal.com 1 to 6 registers 1st Place: Jackie Hanson, Broulim’s, Shelley, ID 7 or more registers 1st Place, $1,000 prize: Joe McGarry, Schnucks, Edwardsville, IL 2nd Place, $800 prize: Dean Goncalves, Price Rite Cranston store #372, Cranston, RI 3rd Place, $600 prize: Brandon Everett, Rouses #22, Slidell, LA 4th Place, $400 prize: Christopher Higgins, Rouses Markets, Mandeville, LA FreshFruitPortal.com Honorable Mentions, $200 prize each Angel Patino, Angelo Caputo's Fresh Markets, Elmwood Park, Il Philip Abercrombie, Winn Dixie Store 0500, Pinson, AL Amparo Cox, Rouses #28, Metairie, LA William Oelrich, Trig's, Rhinelander, WI Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 3, Dallas, TX Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 52, Fort Worth, TX Julia Johnson, GE Foodland 53, Forest Hill, TX Russell Varga, Chucks Produce and Street Market, Vancouver, WA FreshFruitPortal.com 7 or more registers 1st Place: Joe McGarry, Schnucks, Edwardsville, IL About the National Mango Board The National Mango Board is an agriculture promotion group supported by assessments from both domestic and imported mangos.
