A House at Varengeville-Sur-Mer TIME for NORMANDY Les Bruyères, 58 Rue De L'aumône, 76119 Varengeville-Sur-Mer

A house at Varengeville-sur-Mer TIME FOR NORMANDY Les Bruyères, 58 rue de l'Aumône, 76119 Varengeville-sur-Mer www.TimeForNormandy.com Featured in "The Most Beautiful Villages of Normandy" by Hugh Palmer, Varengeville is less than eight miles from Dieppe. Les Bruyères is the first house in a private road. It's secluded and quiet, yet thanks to a pathway off the rue de l'Aumône by No.31, it’s only 15 minutes' walk from a baker, butcher, supermarket, newsagent, pharmacy and post office. You can walk to the sea and beautiful cliffs in 20 minutes. Turn right into rue de l’Aumône, continue to the end and follow the footpath. The Normandy countryside is green and rolling - perfect for cycling and walking. Within easy reach are Dieppe, Veules-les-Roses, Saint-Valery-en-Caux, Veulettes-sur-Mer, Etretat, Fécamp, the Normandy Beaches, Giverny, Rouen, the Seine Valley, and much, much more. There are two parking spaces, completely off the road, just outside the house. Our housekeeper, Sabine, will leave the place beautifully prepared for you. Heating will be on (if appropriate), plenty of hot water available, beds made up, kitchen and bathroom linen at your disposal. The gardener may pop in to mow the lawn during your stay and if you are there for two weeks, Sabine will come on the middle Saturday to change the beds and do a little cleaning. If you should have any problems, just ring us (+44 208 971 3264 or +44 7950 163194). CHANGEOVER DAY IS SATURDAY BOOKINGS Reservations are not definite until we have received your booking form and deposit. We will advise you if there is a lot of interest in your chosen dates, but in the event of conflict, we work on a first come, first served basis. We strongly recommend that you arrange a comprehensive travel insurance policy (including cancellation cover) and have full cover for your personal belongings, etc., since these are not covered by our insurance. WE PROVIDE Bedroom: Mattress protectors, duvet, two pillows per person; all bed linen including spare blankets for chilly nights WCs: Toilet rolls Bathrooms: Bath and hand towel per person; towel for the downstairs shower room Kitchen: 2 tea towels, kitchen towel, oven glove; bin liners DIRECTIONS From Dieppe: Prettiest way is the coastal road - look out for the view as you come round the bend into Pourville-sur-Mer. Go into the centre of Dieppe and take the road signed to Pourville and Varengeville. From Le Havre: Take the D925 towards Dieppe and follow the signs to Varengeville. Driving into the village, turn right at a shop called Lin et l'Autre into rue de l'Aumône. Continue straight on at a tiny crossroads and then the road curves round to the left. After just under half a mile you will arrive at the house. Turn right at the Les Bruyères sign into the little private road. If you go past the fire hydrant numbered 29, you’ve gone too far. BEFORE YOU SET OFF ACROSS THE CHANNEL You can travel many ways across the Channel to France, the Channel Tunnel: the cross-channel ferry companies from south coast terminals, even flydrive. I can do no better than recommend: http://www.aferry.co.uk/ferry-to-france-ferries-uk.htm If you are over 60, you can receive a 20% discount on the DFDS Newhaven-Dieppe crossing simply by making a phone reservation on 0800 917 1201. This site might be helpful: http://www.moneysupermarket.com/travel-insurance/destinations/france/ MONEY All you need to know is nicely summed up here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money INFORMATION Make sure you have the Arrival and Departure information we send to you. You will need it to get into the house. WHEN YOU GET THERE THE HOUSE This is a non-smoking house, and we're sorry but no pets are allowed. Cleaning is included in the cost, with the proviso that you leave the house in a reasonable state and do all your washing up and putting away. The house has central heating for the colder months. There are halogen heaters for chilly evenings when the weather is warmer. Plenty of hot water comes from an immersion heater. The front door of the house opens into the well-equipped kitchen. There are fitted units, a table and two chairs, electric oven, induction hob, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a back kitchen with a fridge freezer, washer/dryer, ironing board and iron, vacuum cleaner, step ladder, plus racking containing cleaning products, bin liners, tools, etc. The kitchen opens to a large dining and sitting room. Apart from plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery, there is a large basket full of tourist information, as well as a selection of DVDs and games. There is also a radio/CD player, a DVD player and satellite television purely for UK channels (Freesat), only available when the leaves have fallen from the trees. Next to the downstairs shower room with wash hand basin and WC is an alcove with a comfortable single bed. This makes it possible for one person to sleep downstairs. There’s a bookcase in this bedroom with a cupboard underneath containing light bulbs, manuals and first aid kit. Upstairs are three bedrooms. Bedroom 1 is a double with a 160cm bed. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are twins, each with two 90cm beds. The upstairs bathroom has a shower, bath and wash hand basin. There is a separate WC. Please don’t use the shower over the bath other than for hair washing and cleaning the bath. Outside the house there is a storage area where you will find garden furniture and barbecues. You can reorganise the space to make room for your bikes too. Alcove Shower Back Bedroom Room Kitchen Sitting Room Dining Room Kitchen Landing WC Bedroom 3 Bedroom 2 Bedroom 1 Bathroom THE HOUSE SETTLING IN ON ARRIVAL The keys will be in a key box. You will be given the code to open this. There is a gate key and one for the front door which also opens the door in the sitting room. The electricity and hot water will be switched on ready for you. The Cooker The oven is electric, with an induction hob. The Washing Machine The washer/dryer is in the back kitchen. Other Appliances Fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, hand blender, ice cream maker, juicer, kettle, iron and toaster. There are instructions for appliances in the cupboard of the bookcase in the alcove. There are fuse boxes in the back kitchen, alcove and on the landing; they are clearly labelled. The house is well equipped, so it's worth taking time to look in the cupboards and drawers to see just what there is. For instance, there are plastic plates, glasses and bowls for use in the garden, ice cube trays, salad spinner, knife sharpener, etc. The top right hand cupboard is for food and in the cupboard with shelves below, at the bottom, is a basket for vegetables. In the back kitchen you will find the iron, ironing board, tools, cleaning materials, bin bags, etc. Loos The drains are shallow, so please don’t flush anything other than toilet paper. Replacement Bulbs Replacement bulbs are kept in the cupboard of the bookcase in the alcove. Medical Kit Also in that cupboard there is a medical kit. Please replace anything you take from it. Things to Do and See In the alcove you will find books and maps of Normandy, in the sitting room a basket full of literature about places to visit. Please feel free to add any spare leaflets/ brochures you collect. Restaurants There is a bowl in the kitchen full of restaurant and other cards. Please add to it if you find a good restaurant that isn't there. It's always advisable to make a reservation. We are grateful for comments, and welcome any additions to the material. Our aim is to make our guests' holidays as enjoyable as possible. WHEN YOU GO OUT Please lock the front doors and the gate when you go out, and make sure all windows are closed or open only at the top (turn handle up and push). This is important as a security measure. USEFUL INFORMATION Rubbish - All recyclables except glass go into the yellow-topped bin. Bottles must be taken to the recycling centre (back of the car park by the Mairie). Other refuse goes in the grey-topped bin. Both are collected early on Monday mornings (the recycling once a fortnight). There’s an extra Thursday collection in July and August for grey tops. Please tie up your rubbish bags and leave them in the wheelie bin at the end of path in front of the house. It’s important that you sort your refuse well; if the bin is rejected, we have to arrange sorting and disposal, so a charge will be deducted from your deposit.
