This is always one of my favorite feasts of the year, for it reminds us so clearly of God’s unfathomable love for us. As we consider all that our Lord promised St. Faustina about His divine mercy, we see that there is nothing that should ever keep us from God. As long as we are sorry for our sins, repent of them, and confess them, then His mercy covers all things – even the worst of our sins. Who of us cannot take great comfort in that? With this in mind, I encourage you to make good use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation from time to time. While Holy Mother Church only requires us to go to Confession once a year (a requirement that is only binding on those who are conscious of grave sin), it is a very good practice to go to confession regularly (say, every 4-6 weeks) – even for just venial sins. It is there in the confessional that God’s mercy is poured upon us so generously and in such a way that not only are our sins forgiven, but we are given new strength to overcome our persistent sins. When we humbly approach our Lord in the confessional with true sorrow for our sins, He opens wide His arms and draws us so gently to Himself. This week I ask you to pray for our fellow parishioner, Peter Tonon. Peter will be ordained as a permanent deacon this coming Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church. All are invited to attend. Peter has been in training for several years, and it is our hope that once he is ordained he will be assigned with us here at St. Ann’s. Please pray that he and the men who will be ordained along with him will always be conscious of the great dignity of their vocation and always fulfill it well. Lastly, as many of you know by now, Sr. Judy had a small stroke in Holy Week. She spent several days in the hospital and is now in a rehab center working toward a full recovery. Please keep her in your prayers as she rehabilitates. You are welcome to send any cards to us here at the parish office, and we will be sure she gets them. Trustful of God’s Great Mercy, Fr. Reid Fr.
