Executive Summary New Jersey is home to many rare and endangered plant species. The management and conservation of these species is essential to the maintenance of healthy, functioning ecosystems here and elsewhere. Practitioners of rare species management agree that the in situ conservation of rare species and their habitats is the priority for conservation and the best way to avoid local or global species extinctions. Although reintroducing plants has a low success rate and is not an alternative to conserving plants in their natural habitats, it remains an important tool for the recovery of rare, threatened, and endangered plants in certain circumstances.
