The weekend featured great speakers, a strengthening of Christian friendship, powerful music, and a fun time, highlighted by the true presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Here is what some of the youth had to say about their experience: “This was my first time coming to Steubenville and it was life-changing. My favorite part was definitely Adoration. You could literally feel God pulling you closer to Him.” -Jack “The talks were amazing and Adoration was incredible. This conference gave me a fresh view of the sacredness of the Blessed Sacrament. It changed the way I will participate at Mass.” -Catherine “I watched as one of my best friends, an ardent non-believer, burst into tears before the Eucharist in Adoration. Needless to say, it was one of the most touching moments of the trip.” -Graham “Before we left, a few guys and I were talking about our doubts and unbelief. But after the [retreat], the same guys and I were having the exact opposite conversation. We discussed our new, strong belief in the Lord.” -Nick “Seeing the thousands of people at Mass, all receiving the Eucharist, really revealed to me the true meaning of the word ‘catholic’ which means ‘universal’.” -Lydia “I really feel I had a reconnection with God. After months of wondering, I finally felt something like an indescribable awesomeness that will live in me forever.” -Allison “This weekend was a very powerful experience for me. The music, worship, and fellowship were great and strengthened and inspired me to be a better Catholic. Confession cleansed me and I felt on fire during Adoration.” -Andrew “Steubenville was such a beautiful experience. It was really unifying – both with the group and, especially, with the Lord. The whole trip filled me up with so much joy. I can’t wait until next year!” -Mary Kate “Steubenville has been seriously amazing again this year – watching my friends and thousands of other teens moved by the Holy Spirit and feeling Him working within myself as well.” -Caroline “I hadn’t been to Catholic Church since 5th grade and was hesitant about coming but the first thing we did there was Adoration. I sat and prayed there and realized everything would be fine because I’m with God through this entire journey.” “This is my third trip and every time has been more incredible. Seeing all the youth excited for Christ is really inspiring.” “I could really feel the Presence of God in Adoration and experienced how strong prayer can be. In Confession, I felt forgiveness.” “I was in a dark place. It was really hard for me. I could never feel comfortable about myself but this weekend really helped. I really felt better about everything, and by the way, God is awesome!” “[During Adoration] From what felt like a lightingbolt I suddenly fell to my knees crying, I was curled up in a ball on the ground for what felt like an hour wiping away tears from my face, unable to stand up or even move. I wasn’t sad, I wasn’t angry, it was from pure, uncontrollable joy and a hefty dosage of guilt. After 18 long years, 2 of them spent as an atheist, I finally felt what everyone else said was the best part of the Catholic faith. The Holy Spirit didn’t just touch me, it threw me to the ground and paralyzed me in fear and happiness. It was incredible. It was amazingly, wonderfully scary and I am glad to be a part of the Catholic Church again.” -Grayson Changing of the Guard – This weekend we thank Fr. Raj for the eight months he spent ministering to our faith community. Our prayers and good wishes go with him as he heads off to take up his new duties in Swainsboro and Metter. This weekend we also want to offer a warm (hopefully temperature wise – not too warm) welcome to Fr. John Osom, MSP. Fr. John is a member of the Missionary Society of St. Paul. He is a native of Nigeria but most recently served as a pastor in the Diocese of Baton Rouge at Napoleonville, LA. We look forward to getting to know Fr. John. And we give thanks to Fr. Samuel for helping us out this past month. We wish him well as he starts his work in Springfield. Finally, Our Holiday Masses are always special. I hope you will be able to join us this Wednesday for the 9:15 Mass on our Independence Day. It will be our closing liturgy for the Fortnight for Religious Freedom. Please come and join your fellow parishioners in praying for our country. prayer requests July 1, 2012 around the d e a n e r y , d i o c e s e , & t h e a r e a Rest In Peace FAMILY RETREAT CHARISM SCHOOL & SEEKING PART-TIME YOUTH Please remember in your prayers those who have died recently: Dorothy Westbrook, wife of Dick Family Life and Villa Marie Center MIRACLE HEALING SERVICE MINISTRY COORDINATOR Westbrook.
