The fun all kicked off in style under rather cloudy skies on Friday 14th when a group of 30 children from Walton Oak School and 30 children from Bell Farm school came for a Treasure Hunt around the village taking in much of the history of the village Left to Right: Natalie Brotherton, Philip Baker, Claire Atkins and having great time… Fortunately, the rain stayed it was great to see everyone staff all coming together for away, and we received coming together in a day a day of fun and celebration. wonderful feedback from of fun and celebration. JuneAugust 2017 2017 3 TERRY POTTINGER Some weeks ago, it was decided that a meeting should be held where the future of the Activity Centre could be debated. All Clubs and societies attached to the Centre were invited to the meeting (chaired by Nik Reynolds). After much debate from all interested parties, it was decided that, except for the Woodwork Room (which will remain the same), the Centre will be completely renovated which means a win-win outcome for all concerned. After being approached through the correct channels, the WV Welfare Fund has agreed to donate £2,000 to this project. All this goes to show that pre-talk with all interested parties can have a sensible outcome. Well done to all who helped with this project! A different tale entirely! A couple of weeks ago in A Section, we held a garden party for one of our senior residents. Of the 14 who attended, 10 were octogenarians! We started at 2.00 pm, lots of authentic Chinese food, wine, Pimms and beers with music by Coleman Hawkins, Art Tatum and Sarah Vaughan. We finished at 9.00pm after a great party which goes to show that after retirement you needn’t stop having fun. PS. Nobody had to go to work the next day!!! Terry Pottinger, Chair of WVRC The Villager Magazine Schedule Due to the over whelming response of articles and content for The Villager Magazine, the committee request that articles are no more than 250 words in length. 15th of the Month: All content to be with Claire by 5.00pm (*Please note that unfortunately due to copy and print deadlines, we are unable to accept any content after this date) 16th of the Month: Villager Magazine Committee meets to finalise and proof read content As we have to collate and format all content for the magazine as we go, if you are able to get your content to us before the 15th each month that would be much appreciated. Many thanks 4 www.whiteleyvillage.org.uk TOPICS OF INTEREST MEET YOUR SECTION REPS Section G Section H Section J Section K Gill Lindley Trevor Waterworth Terry Eames John Sheppard 17 Chestnut Walk 140 Octagon
