Bermuda Triangle

Bermuda Triangle

Non-chronological report The Bermuda Triangle – also known as the Devil’s Triangle – is one the world’s greatest, unsolved, oceanic mysteries! This area of ocean is well-known due to the regular disappearance of ships and aeroplanes that have occurred in these parts without anyone being able to establish why! Where is the Bermuda Triangle? The Bermuda Triangle does not actually have an exact, geographical location; however, it is generally considered to be positioned between Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Florida, in the Atlantic Ocean. Covering between 500,000 and 1.5 million square miles, this area is also unusual because magnetic compasses operate differently to normal when within this zone. There is only one other place on the planet that causes magnetic compasses to act in such a way! Despite being shrouded in such mystery and supernatural occurrences, the Bermuda Triangle encompasses some of the most well-travelled shipping lanes and flight paths, with many people suggesting that the strange reports have been exaggerated for dramatic effect! The history of the Bermuda Triangle. Peculiar tales have been told of this stretch of water for hundreds of years! The earliest documented incidents were recorded by famous explorer, Christopher Columbus, who reported seeing strange sights whilst voyaging across the Atlantic Ocean for the first time in 1492. Christopher Columbus grammarsaurus.co.uk Non-chronological report Initially, he wrote in his log about a great flame of fire that hurtled through the sky before crashing into the ocean, which he claims to have witnessed aboard the deck of the Santa Maria! It is now presumed that it was probably a meteorite, but it clearly made an impression on the explorer. As well as this, he claims to have seen a light, which was similar to a candle, moving up and down a little way off in the distance. Upon summoning his crew to see the bizarre sight for themselves, the light promptly vanished from sight, only to reappear multiple times. Additionally, Columbus is famous for claiming to see a glowing, disc-shaped object, which seemed to emerge from the ocean and then propel itself into the sky. Whilst many people in the modern world believe the explorer merely saw lights on a distant shore or perhaps a distress signal from a passing ship, there are some that assert that this is proof that supernatural beings are in existence on Earth and are present in the Bermuda Triangle! Strange happenings at sea! The Bermuda Triangle is one of the most highly-studied yet most enigmatic expanses of ocean on the planet due to the various unexplained and unresolved events that have occurred in this region from disappearances to accidents! Below are some of the most famous incidents to have taken place in these mysterious waters! 1. Ellen Austin – In 1881, the Ellen Austin was a large cargo ship, who reported sighting an unidentified boat drifting about aimlessly within the Bermuda Triangle. After concluding the ship must have been abandoned, four members of the crew were ordered aboard to sail it to New York; however, after three days of sailing, these crew members had disappeared without a trace! The same fate was destined for another group of crew members, when they were ordered aboard to replace the missing men. They too vanished never to be found! grammarsaurus.co.uk Non-chronological report 2. USS Cyclops – In March, 1918, the USS Cyclops – one of the US Navy’s biggest fuel ships – disappeared, along with the 309 crew that were on board, whilst journeying from Brazil to Baltimore. The weather had been described as fair on the day they departed and there were no recordings of distress or requests for help and yet the ship was never seen again despite a large-scale search for it. Even more bizarrely, two of the USS Cyclops’ sister ships also vanished whilst travelling on nearly the same route in 1941. 3.US Navy Bombers – In December 1945, five Navy bombers flew from Fort Lauderdale in Florida on a practice bombing mission. Known as Flight 19, there were reportedly fourteen passengers aboard the planes. The planes became lost after the compasses stopped working and they eventually ran out of fuel. Not only were the planes and crew members never recovered after extensive searches but a rescue plane also disappeared on the same day. 4. Dan Burack and Father Patrick Horgan - On the 22nd December 1967 a yacht named ‘Witchcraft’ left Miami to enjoy the Christmas lights from the water. When the boat was a mile from the shore, the captain contacted the coastguard and stated that the boat had hit something and assistance would be required to tow them back to shore. However, when the coastguard arrived nineteen minutes later, there was no yacht or any evidence that a ship had been stranded in the location. A thorough search was ordered but it was unsuccessful, with the ship still remaining missing to this day. What do you believe? Whilst modern-day investigators have blamed these supernatural occurrences on bad weather or human error, it is still easy to see why many people might wish to avoid the Bermuda Triangle if they value their lives! grammarsaurus.co.uk.
