It contains scenes of violence, bondage, nudity, non-consentual sex, and the darker side of the Futurama universe, taking the characters way out of their usual whacky and funny situations, and placing them way out in left field. This is a work of non-profit parody as mentioned in the United States Copyright Act. Is it immoral? Pretty much. Is it canon? Don’t be stupid. Was it fun to write? You bet your ass. J Note: The author does not condone or endorse kidnapping, violence towards women, or the sexual shenanigans portrayed in this story. It’s a work of fantasy. Understand? Also, the characters are assumed to have an enlightened 30th century attitude towards sex, not the prudish one that most of today’s world seems to have. And it’s the 21st century… K Therefore, if you do read the story and get offended by the content, don’t come bitching to me. You were warned. The Turning Of The Worms pace, the final frontier. Well, it used to be. Now they’re working on some sort of dimensional travel, and it’s taken the ‘final frontier’ cliché for itself. Space is now just something else to pasSs thr ough. And pass through it humankind does, in all sorts of vessels, ranging from beautiful and graceful, to rather ugly and functional. The latter description more closely fits the small, green-painted rocket belonging to Planet Express Inc., based in New New York City, Earth. It was currently on a direct course for Mars, eschewing the usual hyperbolic orbit transfer method, going for the faster, direct route. But even that wasn’t fast enough for its hyperactive passenger. “What do you mean, an hour?!?” Amy Wong cried as she burst through the door to the flight deck. Sitting at the control console, Turanga Leela didn’t even bother to turn and answer, her single eye narrowing as she let out a silent breath. She heard Amy’s high-heeled shoes click on the deck, and then the oriental girl was standing in front of the console, between Leela and the view of the forward windows. Leela barely acknowledged her. She was in no mood for tantrums. “Well?” Amy demanded, her hands sliding to her hips. Despite her attitude, she looked stunning, dressed in a brand-new evening gown with all the trimmings; gloves, earrings, the lot. Leela’s own mood darkened a little more. That outfit probably cost more than she made in six months. “I said, planetfall will be in about an hour,” she replied, almost through clenched teeth. “Amy, I’m sorry Interplanetary Limo cancelled your ride, but I’m not putting any dark matter into the engines!” “Hey!” Amy blurted. “I’m the client! You do what I say, Leela! Besides, you’ve put dark matter in the engines befo-” “And I’m the Captain!” Leela interrupted, springing to her feet and looking down at Amy, who cringed back a little. “Do your parents want to pay for the overhaul we’ll have to do to the engines, just so you can arrive at the Mars University Mixing Ball on time?” “But this is the social event of the decade!” Amy wailed. Leela sat back down, hands sliding around the controls again. That’s what Amy had said about last year’s ball. Marcus © 2004 3 The Turning Of The Worms “So you’ll be fashionably late,” she sighed, pressing buttons. “Look, I’ll even set down in the Mars U parking lot for you…” Amy bristled again. “So I can be seen arriving in this heap? No thank you!” With that, she spun on her heel, stalked to the forward seats and plonked herself down on the couch. Mars was not visible yet due to their proximity to the sun, but that didn’t stop her trying to find it. Leela didn’t know whether to sigh or snarl. A perfectly good Saturday evening, shot to hell, and here she was ferrying this brat to a Mars U grope-fest. It had begun when Amy’s fancy ride to Mars had cancelled on her, citing mechanical problems. There was then promptly much un-ladylike cursing in Korean, so much that the video-phone screen nearly cracked. A flurry of frantic calls confirmed there was nothing else with any sort of class available. Amy had then looked at the Planet Express ship, shuddered, and offered twice the going rate to urgently take her to Mars, right now. Professor Farnsworth, unexpectedly awake at three in the afternoon, had practically thrown Leela into the ship and made Fry sweep the steps before kowtowing Amy aboard. To add insult to injury, nobody had come with them. Fry and Bender had swiftly taken off drinking, the Professor wandering off to his chair for a nap, and Zoidberg and Hermes were nowhere to be seen. So Leela had to put with Amy for the duration. When this little trip was over, and their relationship went from contractor/client to captain/apprentice again, she’d make Amy wash and wax the entire ship. But the fact they were alone had serious ramifications for the near future. Leela had, of course, noticed the small spacecraft that was seemingly following them. Nothing unusual about that, the Earth to Mars run was a commonly used, although still big piece of space. But their scanners were not sensitive enough to detect the tiny, stealthy object it fired towards them… CLUNK! “What was that?” “You hit a small rock or something. Some pilot.” Leela ignored the surly insult. Her console had started flashing and bleeping. “A small rock that sets off the ‘hull breach’ alert? I don’t think so.” She quickly pulled the throttle back to idle. Amy, hearing the engine whine die, leapt to her feet. “What are you doing?” she demanded. “Listen, ‘Ms. Wong’,” Leela snapped, finally having enough of Amy’s jibing. “You want to arrive at Mars in pieces? Put on a suit and get the repair kit! I’ll try to find out exactly where the breach is.” Amy huffed and spluttered, but she wasn’t stupid. A hole in the hull could be serious, worth every precaution they could take, and she knew that if the hole was small enough they could quickly patch it and be on their way. So she made her way to the equipment locker while Leela pressed buttons on her console. She was about to turn her attention to how to put a spacesuit on while wearing a tight evening dress, when a feeling of lightheadedness washed over her. And it didn’t go away, it got worse with each passing breath. She turned to face Leela, and the world seemed to move in slow motion. “Umm… Leela… I…” was all she got out before collapsing on the deck. Leela gasped as she watched Amy fall. The breach was in here? Wait, there’s been no pressure drop, so what’s wrong? She took a couple of deep breaths. No, the air was all right. She slipped out of her chair to help Amy, then fell to her hands and knees as the room began to spin. Then she was treated to the sight of the textured deck rushing up to greet her, but her world went black before she hit it. Her last thought was that maybe the air wasn’t all right… When awareness began to return, the first thing Leela noticed was how cool it was.
