Everybody had a lot of laughs, especially with our special guest from Victoria, Peter Denahy. He is one very talented guy who has an interesting way of thinking about everyday things, which shows in his song writing. It was so good to have Bernie and the Bandits as our band for the day. They’re always a crowd pleaser. They have great dance material. It’s always so good to see new faces at our club, especially if they become members. Which reminds me, it would help the people at the door if you would please show your membership card when arriving at our shows. We have so many members it’s impossible for the people at the door to know who are current members and who aren’t. Unfortunately we are going to lose our treasurer at our A.G.M. this year, so we will need someone to take up that position. Please have a serious think about being our treasurer. If you are interested see any of the committee. We have a number of our members who are very ill at the moment. I pray they’ll all get well soon and be back at our club. We also have a number of very frail people in our club who still like to live life to the fullest and that includes dancing. As we all know line dancing is true country style dancing as is a few other traditional styles and everyone has a right to expect respect and consideration on the dance floor. Our club has a policy that we give a designated space to line dancers and the rest of the floor to whatever type of dance you want (even a jig if you like). Please treat others as you would like to be treated. Our March show was a hit with Jay J Shannon and Winchester entertaining us. So good to see familiar old faces in cont’d next page The Adelaide Country Music Club Inc., operates from ‘COUNTRY CALL’ IS THE NEWSLETTER OF the SLOVENIAN CLUB ADELAIDE THE ADELAIDE COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB INC. at 11 LaSalle St, Dudley Park (off Pym St.) A MONTHLY PUBLICATION EDITED BY THE PUBLICITY OFFICER For information about The Adelaide Country Music Advertising in this newsletter is available at the Club write to: following rates: PO Box 307 MODBURY NORTH SA 5092 Full page (approx 175mm x 260mm) $40.00 or contact any of the committee personnel listed Half Page (approx 130mm x 175 mm) $20.00 below Quarter Page (approx 85 mm x 130mm) $10.00 Actual size may vary slightly, depending on orientation Committee Members and layout of adjacent articles. Luke 16:10” LORRAINE’S ROUND-UP Feb 2008 Entertainment Report Well here we are, Birthday celebrations swinging along. It’s always a pleasure to have Bernie & the Bandits. They are forever ready to please us all with their music and their friendly attitude. Our special guest Peter Denahy is a very clever singer, song writer. My favourite was the one where he spoke and answered his own questions on this new album (Picture In A Frame), the song called ‘Sort of dunno Nothin’. This album has made it into the top 20 in Sydney. Peter used to tour with Slim Dusty and Slim supported him all the way. He is also a great musician. Thanks Peter for a fun show. Some people may think he was a bit boring, but as I always say, country music is all sorts of styles and we must always encourage them. Steve Liley, always a welcome walk up, sang a few songs on the day. Our cake was cut by one of our oldest members, Audrey Moule who will celebrate her 90th birthday March 12th. She was a little bit shy and surprised but really enjoyed doing it. I believe a great day was had by all, hope everyone has been having good days and Audrey cutting our Birthday enjoying country music over the last 19 years. Cake Bye for now, Lorraine March 2008 Entertainment Report Summer has gone, autumn now here and what lovely weather, no rain but we all continue on enjoying country music. Band of the month, Winchester with Jay J Shannon. Jay J has been around for a while, always sings a great song and has a deep tone to his singing. Thanks to the band the dance floor was always full. It was pleasing to hear the girls singing in the band, Debi, Jay J’s partner and Jan. Jan’s son Ben joined in later with his mandolin. This is what country music is about, families singing and playing together. Steve Liley was on hand to sing a couple of songs, the Italian country gentleman, Steve Tripodi did a good job and I even tackled a couple of songs. Jan, Ben and Kali, friend of the band That’s all for now.
