WFD Cycle 2 Catchment Galway Bay North Subcatchment Cashla_SC_010 Code 31_8 2UGQDQFH6XUYH\,UHODQG$OOULJKWVUHVHUYHG/LFHQFH1XPEHU(1 Generated on: 13 Dec 2018 1 Generated by WFD Application Assessment Purpose This assessment has been produced as part of the national characterisation programme undertaken for the second cycle of Water Framework Directive river basin management planning. It has been led by the EPA, with input from Local Authorities and other public bodies, and with support from RPS consultants. The characterisation assessments are automatically generated from the information stored in the WFD Application. They are based on information available to the end of 2015 but may be subject to change until the final 2018-21 river basin management plan is published. Users should ensure that they have the most up to date information by downloading the latest assessment before use. 2 Evaluation of PrioritySubcatchment Issues Three of the 23 water bodies (four river water bodies and 19 lake water bodies) in this subcatchment are monitored. Of the monitored water bodies the river Cashla_010 is At Risk because it has dropped from High status (07-09 and 10- 12) to Good status in 2015. Sediment from forestry and peat harvesting is the significant issue in the subcatchment. A local catchment assessment will be carried out to identify critical source areas for sediment in the sub-basin. Of the ten unassigned LWBs, forestry is the potential significant pressure in Roisin (WE_31_7), Aclogher Cloghermore (WE_31_136), Charraig Choill an Bhalla (WE_31_53) and Fiddaunnavreaghlee (WE_31_129). A local catchment assessment to determine water quality will be carried out on Aclogher Cloghermore and the results will determine whether or not an investigative assessment needs to be carried out on the remaining the lake water bodies. Forestry and peat extraction are the potential significant pressures on Fermoyle (WE_31_141) while a quarry discharge is the potential significant pressure on Cloonadoon (WE_31_1092). Local catchment assessments to determine water quality will be carried out on both LWBs. On Keeraunnagark North_010 the potential significant pressures include peat extraction in the upper reaches and septic tanks in the lower reaches. On na Creibhinne (WE_31_212), potential significant pressures are the septic tanks around the lake shore. Local catchment assessments to determine water quality will be carried out on both water bodies. 3 Map Subcatchment Risk Map River And Lake Waterbodies: WFD Risk The following river and lake waterbodies are in the subcatchment.
