Concerts & Special Worship Services 2021-22 Christ Church Glendale A Parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio The Reverend David A. Pfaff, Rector 965 Forest Avenue Glendale, OH 45246 513-771-1544 A Welcome from the Rector: On behalf of the people of Christ Church Glendale (CCG), it is a delight to welcome you to this brochure outlining many of the high points of our musical and liturgical life in the coming year. After the long season of the pandemic, we are all ready to have our souls nourished by the gift of live music. Whether it is in the setting of worship or a concert, music touches a deep place in our souls. Music helps us connect to and express our deepest longings, and it has the capacity to move us as nothing else does. I am delighted that CCG can offer this rich and varied schedule of events. It is my hope that every person will find opportunities in the events outlined within to allow their soul to sing—literally and metaphorically—and to experience the ability of music to weave together a community in a most wonderful way. One of the bright spots for our parish during the pandemic was the addition of Dr. Tyler Robertson to our staff as the person charged with overseeing and developing our music ministry and program. He has worked hard to look to the future with hope, and all the things you will read about here reflect that hope. As in almost every area of our lives, it feels like a new day has dawned at CCG, as we seek to regather our community of followers of Jesus, and we look forward to welcoming all those who may come here in search of a spiritual home. Whether you visit us for just one concert, or put down spiritual roots in this community, whoever you are, let me assure you that you will be most warmly welcomed here. Music lies very close to the heart of our experience of God. I pray that you will find, through the gift of music, a deep connection to the ‘peace of God which passes all un- derstanding.’ I look forward to sharing the depth of that connection with you very soon. May God bless you. Faithfully, The Rev. David A. Pfaff Rector Welcome to Christ Church Glendale! It is my honor and privilege to invite you to be present at some or all of our musical events happening during the 2021-22 season. I see these concerts as ways for us as a church to reach out to the community and the city at large, by offering events of both sacred and secular nature to people of all ages, faiths and backgrounds. We are fortunate to have two beautiful worship spaces where we will hold most of these concerts and services, in addition to one held outside on our expansive lawn. The Historic“ Church” is the original 1867 building, featuring the ele- ments you might expect in a traditional church. Beautiful woodwork, solid pews, stained glass and the altar as a focal point. This church houses a three-manual, 36 rank pipe organ built by Hilborne Roosevelt in 1876 and installed/rebuilt by M.P. Möller in 1911. TheChapel of the Holy Spirit (built in 2014) is a completely different space--modern in design and flexible in function. While the altar and cross are still focal points, all of the furniture, including chairs, is movable to accomodate various worship and concert needs. The II/26 C.B. Fisk mechanical action organ (Opus 146) and Yamaha C7 semi concert grand piano truly sing in the reverberant acoustic of this room. The mission of these concerts and services is to, in many ways, "be the church". We offer services of Choral Evensong, among others, where you can come and worship in ways different than on Sunday mornings. We offer concerts that support young, emerging artists in the community and build bridges with the world-class faculty at CCM. We also offer some events that are just for fun--fostering opportunities for fellowship and friendship around common interests. A charitable mission is also a primary driver of these concerts beginning this season. With homelessness and food insecurity being such significant problems in our society today, collections will be taken toward local shelters and food banks who work tirelessly to ensure that those who are in need are housed and fed. All of these concerts and services are free and open to the public, and it is my prayer that you might find a way to connect with us here at Christ Church through one or more of them.
