Part 2: Places 10 questions 8 out of 10 The coaching session is only the beginning; it tells you how to revise for the test. Section 2: Private Hire Only Take some time after the coaching session to properly revise for your Knowledge Test. This has one part. You must pass this section. – Walk around the city to get to know the locations and streets. This will give Part Number of questions Pass rate you a better chance of passing. At the end of the coaching session you will be asked to choose an area from Area 1 (North – You can become a better driver by continuing to learn the roads and streets wards) Area 2 (Central wards) and Area 3 (South wards). The questions on your knowledge test paper will include some questions for routes that go to from and through your area and some and not relying on a sat nav. from outside your area. You will be expected to have a good overall knowledge of all areas. – Learn about safeguarding. Section 2: Hackney Carriage Only This has four parts. You must pass all four parts of this section. Note: The lists of places are not exhaustive, so you are advised to learn as many of them as possible. Broadway in a different area. – It lists street names, towns and places in alphabetical order (districts are written The easiest way to find Broadway using your A–Z: in italics next to the street name). Step 1: Go to the index in the back of the A–Z and look up the area Urmston. Remember the area is in blue text – It lists landmarks such as larger public buildings, hospitals, churches and sports grounds by name. Step 2: Write down the page number only for the area Urmston Page 92 Step 3: Now find the street you are looking for located on page number (92) from step 2 Introduction Broadway ...... Grid Ref 5A The reference guide in the front of the A–Z explains all the symbols, for example Step 4: Broadway is on Page 92 at grid 5A: Did you find it? is a Fire Station. The index in the back of the A–Z shows: Finding ‘St’, ‘Sa’ and ‘Gt’ locations – Areas in blue text: for example: Salford/Bolton etc. Please find: St John’s Road (Heaton Mersey) (answer on page 47) – Places of interest in red text: for example: Abbotsfield Pk Many people look for this type of location by looking under St in the index or under Miniature Railway. J for John’s. – Streets, roads and avenues in black text for example: Abingdon Rd. St in front of a word (St John’s Road) means Saint, so search for Sa – Hospitals have their own section, after the index at the back of the book. St after a word (John St) means Street, so search under St – Postcodes are situated in the centre of the A–Z. Gt before a word (Gt Mary Road) means Great, so search under Gre – 50 Mile Map around Manchester is located in the centre of the A–Z. Here are some other abbreviations you will see after street names, and their meanings: – Mapping symbols can be found on the first two inside pages of the A–Z.
