He is a member of Actors Equity Association (Equity) and the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA). In the Spring 2020 season Maxwell was meant to reprise his role as Officer Krupke in West Side Story at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy. The performances have been postponed to a date to be determined due to COVID-19. The production will be directed by Francesca Zambello and conducted by Donato Renzetti. He will also be covering the role of Lieutenant Schrank. In June / July of 2020 Maxwell was slated to join the prestigious Georg Solti Accademia in Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy, lead by Richard Bonynge and Jonathan Papp. This has been postponed to June/July of 2021 due to COVID-19. In the remainder of the Summer and Fall 2020 seasons, Maxwell was meant to be making his role debut as Don José in Opera Loki’s production of Carmen, directed by Jane Gray. This has been postponed to the Fall 2021 season due to COVID-19. The production will tour multiple cities throughout France and the United Kingdom. He will also perform the role of Lysander in Britten’s A Midummer Night’s Dream with Royal Academy Opera, directed by Christopher Luscombe and conducted by Sian Edwards. In the 2019/2020 season Maxwell is proud to be joining the Royal Academy Opera Studio at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In November 2019, Maxwell will perform the role of Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Susie Sainsbury Theater at the Academy, conducted by program director Gareth Hancock and directed by Andrew Sinclair. In March 2020 Maxwell will perform the role of Ricardo in Massenet’s Chérubin conducted by Anthony Legge, directed by James Hurley. In December of 2019 Maxwell performed the role of the Opera Box Ghost in Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles at The Royal Opera at The Château de Versailles. This will be a revival of The Glimmerglass Festival’s 2019 production, directed by Jay Lesenger, choreographed by Eric Sean Fogel and conducted by Joseph Colaneri. In the Summer 2019 season, Maxwell returned to The Glimmerglass Festival, performing the role of Hermann in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades across acclaimed Soprano Patricia Schuman as the Countess. The production was directed by Francesca Zambello and conducted by Michelle Rofrano. About Maxwell’s performance, Opera News wrote, “Mr. Levy is that rare, somewhat dark voiced tenor who not only has the stentorian delivery needed to fill any hall, but also the ability to scale it back with gorgeous results, as he imbues his vocalization with immense heart and feeling…I can predict you will hear much much more of tenor Maxwell Levy.” Maxwell will perform the role of the Ghost Quartet in John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, directed by Jay Lesenger and conducted by Joseph Colaneri. He will also be performing the role of the Emcee/Ensemble in Kern and Hammerstein’s Show Boat directed by Francesca Zambello and E. Loren Meeker and conducted by James Lowe. The season runs from July 6th to August 24th in Cooperstown, NY. In the 2018/2019 season, Maxwell continued his performance studies at The Juilliard School, pursuing a Masters of Music in Vocal Arts under the tutelage of faculty teacher Marlena Malas. Performances at Juilliard included Maxwell’s Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall debut, performing a set of New York-themed musical theater and art songs as part of the Wednesdays at One series. He performed Bill Bolcom’s Cabaret Songs as part of Juilliard’s Liederabend series at Paul Hall, under the direction of Cameron Stowe. In the 2018 summer season, Maxwell was seen in 37 performances on the Alice Busch Opera Theatre stage as a member of the Young Artist Program at The Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, NY. At Glimmerglass, he performed the role of William Dale, while covering the role of Lt. Horstmayer, in Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2011 opera Silent Night, which earned significant acclaim. The production was conducted by Nicole Paiement and directed by Tomer Zvulun. Said Richard Sasanow of ‘Broadway World,’ “it blew me away.” He performed the role of the Ufficiale (Officer), while covering the role of Bartolo, in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, directed by Festival General and Artistic Director Francesca Zambello and conducted by Festival Music Director Joseph Colaneri. Topping off the Glimmerglass season, Maxwell performed the role of Officer Krupke in the triumphant West Side Story, also directed by Francesca Zambello and conducted by David Charles Abell. In the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons, Maxwell was a member of the chorus roster at Opera Philadelphia, performing chorus in the company’s productions of Turandot (2016), Tancredi (2017) and The Magic Flute (2017). In the spring of 2018, he made his Opera Philadelphia solo debut as the Gypsy in Bizet’s Carmen directed by Paul Curran and conducted by Yves Abell. While in Philadelphia, he was a member of the Philadelphia Symphonic Chorus and the Philadelphia Singers, performing with The Philadelphia Orchestra in The Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall and The Mann Center. In the summer of 2017, Maxwell performed as part of the Chautauqua Institution School of Music Voice Program under the direction of Marlena Malas. At Chautauqua, he performed recitals led by Craig Rutenberg, Mikael Eliasen and Don St. Pierre. He performed the roles of Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte and Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier in the scenes program in the Chautauqua Amphitheater. From 2014 to 2017, Maxwell was a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus of the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestras, under the choral direction of John Oliver. He performed a range of concerts from three seasons of Holiday Pops at Symphony Hall to a semi-staged Candide in the Koussevitsky Music Shed at Tanglewood, under conductors including Andris Nelsons, Keith Lockhart and Bramwell Tovey.
