MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE REGULAR SESSION 2021 By: Senator(s) DeBar, McCaughn, Suber, To: Highways and Jordan Transportation SENATE BILL NO. 2481 (As Passed the Senate) 1 AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 9, CHAPTER 450, LAWS OF 2020, TO 2 REVISE THE DESIGNATION OF A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 42 IN 3 GREENE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "DEPUTY U.S. MARSHAL JAKE GREEN 4 AND GREENE COUNTY DEPUTY LAWRENCE DUNNAM MEMORIAL HIGHWAY, EOW 5 APRIL 1, 1921"; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 389 6 IN CHICKASAW COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "JIMMY PORTER MEMORIAL 7 HIGHWAY"; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF U.S. HIGHWAY 49 IN 8 HATTIESBURG, FORREST COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "CLYDE KENNARD 9 MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 11 SECTION 1. Section 9, Chapter 450, Laws of 2020, is amended 12 to read as follows: 13 Section 9. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 42 in 14 Greene County, Mississippi, beginning at its southern intersection 15 with Mississippi Highway 63 and extending one (1) mile west, is 16 designated as the " * * *Deputy U.S. Marshal Jake Green and Greene 17 County Deputy Lawrence Dunnam Memorial Highway, EOW April 1, 18 1921." 19 (2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect 20 and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment 21 of highway described in subsection (1) of this section. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 389 in 23 Chickasaw County, Mississippi, beginning at its intersection with 24 County Road 82 and extending one (1) mile south, is designated as 25 the "Jimmy Porter Memorial Highway." 26 (2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect 27 and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment 28 of highway described in subsection (1) of this section. 29 SECTION 3. (1) The segment of U.S. Highway 49 in Forrest 30 County beginning at its intersection with Hardy Street in 31 Hattiesburg and extending one (1) mile north is designated as the 32 "Clyde Kennard Memorial Highway." 33 (2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect 34 and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment 35 of highway described in subsection (1) of this section. 36 SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from 37 and after July 1, 2021, and shall stand repealed on June 30, 2021. S. B.
