Kilkenny as the Ducks’ 10th director of athletics on February 14, 2007. The 55-year-old Heppner, Ore., native may be new to the world of intercollegiate athletic administration, yet few individ- uals have displayed the passion for a program or have been more actively involved with an institution on all levels than Kilkenny. Furthermore, he has demonstrated the leadership in the private business sector that equates with successfully managing the elements of a multi-million dollar collegiate ath- letic department in addition to already developing the rapport with numerous supporters of the university. The former chairman and chief executive officer of the San Di- ego-based Arrowhead General Insurance Agency (1984-2006) built his business into a nationwide organization with written pre- miums of nearly $1 billion when he sold the company in 2006. In addition to his extensive business background, Kilkenny has a long history of involvement with the University of Or- egon. Since attending the school as an undergraduate from 1970-73, he has served on the university’s Athletic Depart- ment Advisory Board in addition to the Board of Trustees for the University of Oregon Foundation. In addition, Kilkenny has served on the University of Cali- fornia San Diego Athletic Advisory Board and the San Di- ego State University Athletic Director’s Cabinet. He also has served on the board of St. Vincent de Paul and currently serves on the board of directors of the San Diego Interna- tional Sports Council. He was recently honored as 2006 Man of the Year by that organization for his contributions to sports in the San Diego area. Kilkenny initiated his career in business as Western Re- gional Manager of Central West/Puritan Insurance Company (a subsidiary of General Electric Credit Corp.) from 1974-79 before becoming president of The Managing General Agency in Seattle in 1980. He sold the insurance business four years later to purchase Arrowhead. Over the years he has focused much of his attention on numerous charitable endeavors such as the creation of the AGIA Foundation, which raises money for Fanconi Anemia re- search as well as St. Vincent de Paul.
