Prepared E-Manual for the Horticulture component of plant clinic courses (PC-301 and PC-302), which has been found very useful for the students and field functionaries of department of Agriculture/Horticulture, Govt. of H.P. Prepared a practical manual on “Horticulture Nursery Management” which is presently being used by the students of B.Sc. (Agri.) programme. Under Experiential Learning, the students of B.Sc.(Agri.) were imparted hands on training for carrying various plant propagation practices like raising of seedlings, asexual propagation through grafting, layering, budding, cutting etc.; managerial skills in nursery management and plant disposal etc. Conducted educational tour of B.Sc. (Agri.) students. Acted as paper setter and evaluator for Horticultural courses of various universities. Examiner for thesis evaluation. National Training September 16- Rahuri Mahatma Phule programme on “Hi- October 6, (Maharashtra) Krishi Vidyapeeth, Tech Horticulture in 2008 Rahuri relation to Fruit (21 days) (Maharashtra) Production” SPECIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS IN RESEARCH Standardization of propagation methods in Kiwi, Pecan, aonla and clonal rootstocks of apple. Standardization of nursery raising techniques of temperate and subtropical fruit plants. Standardization of pruning techniques in pecan nut Foliar application of zinc in increasing the yield and quality of pecan. Dichogamy studies in pecan. Pollination and fruit set studies in pecan. Use of Paclobutrazol on growth and nut yield of pecan. Use of CPPU in improving the fruit size, quality and yield in kiwi. Selection and evaluation of desirable pecan strains for quality, fruitfulness and yield. TECHNOLOGICAL OUTCOME Standardized the methods and time of grafting and budding in kiwi- Tongue grafting during from 5th to 20th February was recommended as optimum time for grafting kiwi and being employed presently for commercial propagation of kiwi. Propagation of pomegranate through cuttings using growth regulators- Cuttings should be treated with 2000 ppm IBA to get highest percentage survival of cuttings and being employed presently for commercial propagation of pomegranate. Foliar zinc application to increase the productivity of pecan- Foliar application of ZnSO4 @ 0.50% was recommended to get better growth, nut quality, yield and leaf nutrient status of pecan nut. Standardized pruning techniques in pecan nut- Recommended light pruning (1:1.50 height to spread ratio) to improve the growth and nut quality of pecan. Regulated the productivity of pecan by the use of paclobutrazol- Application of paclobutrazol @ 2.5/tree is recommended to regulate the bearing in pecan. Dichogamy studies in pecan-Combination of 3-4 cultivars may be planted for maximum cross-pollination and to get good yields in pecan. Stratification for 6 weeks followed by soaking in 2000ppm GA is optimum for securing improved germination and seedling growth in pecan nut. Standardized pre-sowing seed treatments with GA3 and thioureato enhance the germination and seedling growth of aonla. Pollination studies in kiwi- Eleven insect species were recorded to visit kiwi fruit during flowering and Xylocopa fenestrate was more frequent closely followed by Vespa species and Apisdorsata. • Establishment of Genebank/mother orchards:Procured and established genetic stock/germplasm of various fruit crops • Strengthening of nursery production programme and resource generation: Strengthened the facilities for teaching and research in the Department in respect of creation of basic infrastructure facilities especially high tech polyhouse, mist chamber, naturally ventilated polyhouses, net houses, seminar hall, bore well, sprinkler irrigation system in nursery, drip irrigation system in orchards etc. through adhoc projects. Achieved distinction in supplying the quality planting material of fruit crops not only to farmers/institutes of Himachal Pradesh but also to J & K, Uttrakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and North-Eastern States like Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. Re-accreditation and rating of Nursery of the department of Horticulture was got done from National Horticulture Board and was again rated as Four Star Nursery for the best infrastructure, efficient and model nursery. The other significant contribution is the resource generation by the production of quality planting material of temperate and sub-tropical fruit crops. The reputation of nursery can be judged from the fact that advance orders for quality planting material of different temperate fruit crops are received
