Alongside the interns who have supported him, Marco has over the past three years made an enormous and transformative impact on the support for artists at the BSR. Marina Engel’s architecture programme has also become an extraordinarily valuable and much admired feature of the Rome scene. This year, as described in the Annual Review, the programme has had an important sense of intellectual cohesion around the concept of the fragment, and it has been fascinating to see how the programme has interwoven with the work of artists and others, reflecting on a theme that is at one and the same time both rooted in some of the most challenging particularities of our times, and universal. 4 CHRISTOPHER SMITH — DIRECTOR December Mostra: Open Studios Installation view, 2015 5 March Mostra Installation view, 2016 6 Introduction Over the past century, the British School at Rome has During their stay, each artist presented a talk that hosted an incredibly diverse number of artists, architects explored their ongoing practices and their relationship and filmmakers in its purpose-built studios.
