St. Aloysius Brother Martin Cor Jesu CENTURY II Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association of New Orleans Magazine Volume 43 NO. 3 December 2016 Homecoming 2016 Crusader Drumline at Homecoming David Trepagnier ’83 Named Alumnus of the Year Academic Scholarship Recipients Homecoming 2016 The Crusaders defeated Rummel 27- 22 for a Homecoming victory in late October. Festivities kicked off with a pep rally in the Conlin Gym before school. The celebration continued after classes at Tad Gormley Stadium with a Tailgate Party featuring jambalaya from Pete Algero ’80 and Reinhart FoodService L.L.C. and Pepsi products. The Student Ambassadors, under the direction of Debbie Broussard and Jerry Ursin ’07 served alumni and guests. Pat Barbaro ’85 and Bryce Barbaro ’17 deejayed and the cheerleaders, NJROTC Rifle Team, the Drumline and Crusader Band all performed. The 2016 Homecoming Court was introduced with student Members of the Cor Jesu Class of 1961 kick-off Plus 50 festivities escorts before heading in for the game. Before kick-off, members of the 1971 District and State Championship football team, members of the 1971 and 1981 City, District and State Champion Cross- Country teams were recognized on their championship anniversaries. At halftime, Miss Shelby Villarrubia was named 2016 Homecoming Queen and Alumni Board President Sal Brocato ‘88 presented the crown. NJROTC and cheerleader alumni participated in the celebration. Larry Tillman ’67 SA served as honorary captain. After the Crusader victory, alumni celebrated at the Lettermen Party at Lakeview Harbor. The Ladies of the Shield provided Sauce for everyone and The Class of 2001 “the backyard” at school for the annual desserts, David Figueroa ’85 and Greg sponsored and served in the drink tent. Crusader Cook-off & Homebrew Contest Figueroa ’86 provided Melinda’s Hot in late September. Sixteen cooking teams and thirteen brews challenged for judges and “people’s choice” awards. Lucky winners took home an array of door prizes, “Big Board” prizes and cash from the 50/50.
