We are looking for success stories where CCD made a difference. We are also interested to find out if the student is still pursuing a career in the transportation industry or has switched to another career goal. If they have switched to another career goal, what were the factors that influenced their new career choice? We would like to share these success stories with our industry partners and those involved in CCD and demonstrate that we are making a difference in the life of a student pursuing a career in the transportation industry. There are multiple paths within the transportation industry and many ways to get there. We are hopeful we will receive responses from multiple students who are seeking various paths to the transportation industry. Twenty-three letters were sent in April 2019. -Since receiving the Construction Career Days scholarship in 2017, I have been studying civil engineering at the University of Florida. I am pursuing a minor in sales engineering and I am hoping to work as an engineer focusing on land development or transportation. Last summer I worked as an intern at the Stellar Group in Jacksonville and will be studying abroad in China this upcoming summer. Construction Career Days helped me realize my passion for construction and engineering and instilled excitement about going to college to learn as much as possible about the industry. -Ryan Canady; 2017 Scholarship Recipient Mrs. Thomas, FDOT, and All Contributors to the Construction Career Days, To start off with, I would like to thank each and every one of you personally for your contributions to my education, and also for the great things that you all have done for every young adult that went before me and the ones that are going after me to the Construction Career Days events. I can’t even begin to comprehend the in-depth planning, coordinating, and funds that go into putting on such a big event year in and year out, but I can promise your hard work and dedication is much appreciated by many. Since receiving this scholarship, I have put the funds to good use by helping me attend Florida Gateway College for the last four semesters and I’m ecstatic to say I will be graduating this Friday, May 3rd, 2019 with my Associates Degree in Business Administration, and with high honors at that. However, these past four semesters have done more for me than just college alone. Since attending CCD in my senior year of high school I have got my Class A Commercial Driver’s License and plan to get my HazMat and Tanker endorsements upon turning 21 to even further my potential. I have gotten my OSHA and MSHA certifications, that way I can be sure I’m safe around the heavy equipment we work with, and also I can further my horizon by being able to work at the Nutrien Phosphate Mines if that time ever comes.
