Information Bulletin February 2019 Heavy Vehicles Night Travel for Agricultural Machinery Approved Council Areas The South Australia Class 1 Agricultural Vehicle Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice 2019, which commences on the 10 February 2019, allows night travel for agricultural machines and/or agricultural combinations in Zones 3 and 4 as per the South Australian “Code of Practice for Oversize and Overmass Agricultural Vehicles”. The dimension limits are: • 3.7m wide and 19.0m long – Zone 3 (Adelaide Hills) • 4.0m wide and 25.0m long – Zone 4 (Country). An eligible vehicle may operate at night according to the conditions as outlined below. General operating conditions 1. Night travel for agricultural machines and/or agricultural combinations is as specified and in accordance with the conditions stated in the relevant code of practice, such as but not limited to: a. mass limits b. height limits c. towing requirements d. warning lights and signs (except temporary roadside warning signs). 2. Night travel is limited between farm blocks or parcels of land being worked by the operator, but not between agricultural regions unless adjacent regions. Agricultural regions are as per the Regional Statement for South Australia as defined by Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA). 3. One pilot vehicle is required at the rear when travelling in Zone 4 (Country). 4. Travel is not permitted during periods of low visibility such as fog, heavy rain, smoke, dust or insect plague; where the headlights of a vehicle approaching within 250m cannot be seen at night. Specific operating conditions Two pilot vehicles (one at the front and one at the rear) are required when travelling in: • the Adelaide Hills (Zone 3); and • in the following council areas: o Adelaide Plains Council o District Council of Cleve o District Council of Franklin Harbour o Kangaroo Island Council Participating Road Managers Travel is permitted on road networks managed by the following participating road managers: • Department of Planning, Transport and • District Council of Karoonda East Murray Infrastructure • District Council of Kimba • Adelaide Hills Council • Light Regional Council • Adelaide Plains Council • District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula • The Barossa Council • District Council of Loxton Waikerie • District Council of Barunga West • Mid Murray Council • Berri Barmera Council • Mount Barker District Council • District Council of Ceduna • City of Mount Gambier • Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council • District Council of Mount Remarkable • District Council of Cleve • Rural City of Murray Bridge • District Council of Coober Pedy • Naracoorte Lucindale Council • Coorong District Council • Northern Areas Council • District Council of Copper Coast • City of Onkaparinga • District Council of Elliston • District Council of Orroroo Carrieton • District Council of Franklin Harbour • Renmark Paringa Council • Town of Gawler • District Council of Peterborough • District Council of Grant • Port Augusta City Council • Regional Council of Goyder • Port Pirie Regional Council • Kangaroo Island Council • District Council of Robe • Wakefield Regional Council • Municipal Council of Roxby Down • Wattle Range Council • Southern Mallee District Council • The City of Whyalla • District Council of Streaky Bay • Wudinna District Council • Tatiara District Council • District Council of Yankalilla • District Council of Tumby Bay • Yorke Peninsula Council Council Areas – Not Permitted Travel is not permitted in the following council areas: • Alexandrina Council • Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara • Flinders Ranges Council • Kingston District Council • City of Port Lincoln • City of Victor Harbor .
