“Cookie”Indiana State Library Bison “Cookie” the Indiana State Library Bison The Indiana State Library named their bison “Cookie” after Hours the first State Librarian, John Cook (1841-1844). The artwork Mon 8 am-4:30 pm and imagery are representative of Indiana, the library’s rich Tue 8 am-4:30 pm collection and architecture found within the historic building. Wed 8 am-4:30 pm Thur 8 am-7:00 pm The bison’s head and neck are covered with the American flag Fri 8 am-4:30 pm and the state flag of Indiana. A mural of the Corydon, Indiana Sat Check Website ‘Constitutional Elm’ is located on the left side and James Whitcomb Riley’s book cover of “Poems of Childhood” can be found on the right side. Below each mural are symbols of Indiana, including the state bird, flower and tree. The bison’s back and mid-section are a collage of photographs, newspaper clippings, documents and book covers found in the library’s collection. The hind legs are covered with the iconic limestone and brass owls found on the exterior and interior of the building. A small insignia of the 38th Indiana Infantry Division, Indiana National Guard can be found on the bison’s base. Troy Fiechter (FEEK-ter) is a native Hoosier and has studied and worked in variety of media. He currently works at Progress Rail in Muncie, Indiana as an automation specialist. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science, in.gov/library attended Herron School of Art and graduated from Vincennes 315 W. Ohio St. University with an Associate of Studio Fine Arts. He draws Indianapolis, IN 46202 his inspiration from life experiences and believes “art is (317) 232-3675 an expression similar to music, journaling, etc. It is [his] preferred method of communication”..
