Bussing is an extremely expensive endeavour and since only a small number of our CWS students require bussing, we are fortunate to be able to have access to Webber’s eight bus routes throughout the city. Each bus route goes directly to/from Webber Academy and a shuttle bus transports Waldorf students to and from our school to Webber. Webber Academy offers its busing service through Southland Transportation. The bus routes are designed yearly, serving the families who have registered for bus service prior to June 1st. Southland Transportation attempts to meet all reasonable requests by providing “close to home” stops. If you are interested in this Bus Service for the upcoming year, please register by May 28, 2019 in order to ensure your address is considered in route planning. Bus routes are currently serving the following communities: Route 1: Bel Aire, Evergreen, Pump Hill, Chinook Park Route 2: Arbour Lake, Citadel, Hidden Valley, Panorama Route 3: Panorama, Harvest Hills, Edgemont Route 4: Capitol Hill, Patterson Heights, Wentworth, West Hillhurst, West Springs Route 5: Elbow Park, Lakeview, Lower Mount Royal, Mount Royal, Signal Hill, Strathcona, Sunalta Bragg Creek: Aspen Woods, Discovery Ridge, Elbow Valley, Springbank Hill Cochrane: Bearspaw, Lynx Ridge, Rocky Ridge, Royal Oak, Tuscany Springbank: Aspen Woods, Cougar Ridge, Strathcona, Valley Ridge The set boundaries for the school buses to travel in the north end of Calgary are Stoney Trail north and Deerfoot Trail, and in the south, Macleod Trail and Highway 22X (Stoney Trail south). Students living outside these boundaries will have to be brought to/from a designated stop within the bus zone of a specified community for their early morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off. The Annual Fees for full-year registration are: MORNING and AFTERNOON $2,600/year MORNING only or AFTERNOON only $1,680/year These Fees are due September 1st in full, or payable in 10 monthly installments from September 1st to June 1st by pre-authorized payment. Families need to contract the bus for the full year. We will not be able to offer mid-year withdrawals as we must pay the full Annual Fee to Webber upon registration. We do accept new registrations mid-year but they must then continue until the end of the school year. If you wish to register mid-year, please contact me (Sandra Langlois) to discuss start date and pro-rated fees calculated, based on the number of school days remaining in the school year. The Registration Form for the Bus Service is available here. Sandra Langlois, Admissions and Facilities Manager [email protected], 403 – 287 – 1868 ext. 153 THE WALDORF® SCHOOL POSTCARD EXCHANGE: A WORLDWIDE COLLABORATION CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF WALDORF EDUCATION Connecting students around the world… with postcards “Bon Voyage” – our school’s postcards are in the mail! The Calgary Waldorf School is participating in a worldwide postcard exchange initiative to both broaden the global perspective of students and kick-off the 100- year celebration of Waldorf Education. Students in each of the 1,100 Waldorf schools (from more than 80 countries) are sending a postcard to every other Waldorf school in the world. Each postcard has been individually designed by a Waldorf student, telling or showing something of his or her own country, school, or self. This innovative global project is connecting hundreds of thousands of students to one another through individualized and artistically designed postcards. Our school is proud to be part of this million-fold Waldorf greeting from around the globe! Here are two photos to capture at least a little view for you of the 1,100 Waldorf100 postcards that have now gone out from CWS to every other Waldorf school in the world! YEARBOOK UPDATE As a school we’ve taken some time to discuss the best way for your child to remember this year of learning. In years past, April and May are the time when the Middle School students press teachers and parents for photos and memories in order to create a CWS Yearbook. There will be no such push this year. We’ve decided that a static book, which inevitably does not include a picture of every child, cannot and should not compete with the layered and story-filled Main Lesson Books, art work and field trips your son or daughter will have experienced this year, especially for those in the Lower Grades. If next year brings you the time and interest in a Middle School only Yearbook, perhaps as an after-school club, please contact Frances Thiessen ([email protected]). As we wrap up this current school year, we are already planning the next. BIKES, SCOOTERS, SKATEBOARDS AND OTHER WHEELIE THINGS With the return of warm weather, children are once again riding bikes, unicycles, scooters, skateboards and all manner of wheeled devices to school. This is a gentle reminder that bicycles and other wheeled conveyances are not permitted on the school property between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm. Please let your children know that they should walk their bikes or scooters (or carry their skateboards, etc.) once they are on school property. This makes the playground, the walkways, and particularly the Breezeway much safer for everyone. Thank you. MaryWyatt Sindlinger, Co-School Administrator INSERT MAYFEST POSTER MAYFEST Friday, May 31st from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm Mayfest is next week! Watch for our pop-up student buskers and face-painter after school leading up to the festivities! Our annual Mayfest celebration is a festive occasion where our school community, family, and friends all come together in celebration of the splendor of Spring, seasonal traditions, and the soon to be school-year-end. This year Mrs. Ghali’s Class 4 will be performing the Maypole Dance to kick-off the festivities. There will be activities for children, live music, student singers, flower garlands, ice cream, and fresh coconut beverages. Families can bring their own picnic dinner or purchase all-beef or veggie hot dogs from our BBQ grill masters! Bring the entire family, neighbours, and friends. Come, rain or shine! FLOWER GARLAND COORDINATOR NEEDED This role involves minimal advanced tasks (cutting of ribbons) along with day-of volunteer coordinating and activity supervising. Previous experience as a garland volunteer would be helpful but is not necessary.
