Planta Solar 20 (PS20) Solar Power Plant

Fundamentals of Renewable Energy | CASE STUDY | SOLAR CSP Planta Solar 20 (PS20) Solar Power Plant 20 MW Power Tower Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) Completed in 2009, Spain’s Abengo Solar 20 MW Planta Solar 20 Solar Power Plant is currently the world’s largest central tower receiver solar CSP power plant. (as of April 2012). Each heliostat, with a surface area of 1,291 SF, reflects the solar radiation it receives onto the receiver, locateD on the top of a 541 foot high tower, proDucing high-temperature, high pressure steam that is directly converteD into electricity by a Rankin turbine/generator. PS20 is part of the larger 300 MW Solucar Complex pro- ject (collaboration of Ciemat, the IDEA, anD the University of Seville) which includes a range of solar technologies such as low anD high concen- tration photovoltaic, tower thermoelectric, para- bolic-trough collector anD Stirling Dish plants. Location: Sanlucar, AnDualusia, Spain Date Commissioned: 2009 (construction phase: 3 years) For clouD transients, the plant has a 20-MWh Rated Capacity: 20 MW Annual Production:48 GWh per year thermal capacity saturateD water thermal storage Capacity: 27%. (solar resource: 2,012 kWh/m2/year) system rateD for (1) hour of operation. Carbon Offset: 12,000 tons per year Project Owner: Abengo Solar (Design/costructionAbener-Abengoa) Generation Offstaker: EnDesa Distribution. 25-year PPA at $0.3722/kWh Generation Technology: Power Tower Water/ Direct Steam CSP, (1,255) dual-axis heliostat reflectors, (1) wet-cooleD Rankine cycle steam turbine Cost: $109.8 million CleanEnergy | ACTION PROJECT http://www.cleanenergyactionproject.com/ .
