Third Tour: For this afternoon was planed the visit to the Fryderyk Chopin's birthplace in Zelazowa Wola. The Chopin family left for Warsaw in the autumn of 1810, but even so Żelazowa Wola clearly held fond memories for the family. Close friends with the Skarbek family, the owners of the property, the Chopins found themselves returning frequently for their holidays. The ZW manor outbuilding was where Chopin was born and is thought to have been built at the tail end of the 18th century. The newly renovated Museum celebrates both the historical birthplace of the lauded composer and pays tribute to the dramatic history of the very museum itself. Half of the house is filled with early 19th century keepsakes, instruments, and paintings, and many visitors attest to the haunting spirit of Chopin that lingers throughout. Another part of the house is decorated in pre-war 20th century decor and traces the transformation of the outbuildings into a world-class museum. Outside the impressively landscaped bucolic garden makes for a nice weekend walk, and feature four Chopin monuments including one obelisk dating from 1894. The plaintive tune breaks off in mid-stream, to commemorate the famous 13th century trumpeter, who was shot in the throat while sounding the alarm before the Mongol attack on the city. The noon-time hejnał is heard across Poland and abroad broadcast live by the Polish national Radio 1 Station. Saint Mary's Church also served as an architectural model for many of the churches that were built by the Polish diaspora abroad, particularly those like Saint Michael's and Saint John Cantius in Chicago, designed in the Polish Cathedral style.
