2 NMkt v Barwell 14th Sept 2019 Chairman’s Notes Firstly, my welcome to the players, management team, committee and supporters of Barwell and to the match officials for this BetVictor Southern Premier Division Central league fixture. Last Tuesday saw us in an FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round replay against Dereham Town having drawn 1-1 at Aldiss Park on Saturday. The 1-0 scoreline at half time was about right with Gareth Heath’s opener the reward for having the better of the possession and chances although, in the second half, the nerves were undoubtedly eased when Joe Neal scored our second, only for them to be raised two minutes into extra time when we conceded a penalty and the lead was reduced to a single goal for the remaining couple of minutes. The final 2-1 score was a relief after another tight game, and we were very grateful for the expert custodianship of MOTM Marcus Garnham who made several expert saves. The victory delivered prize winnings of £4,500 (out of the total of £6,000 with the other £1,500 going to Dereham). We have been drawn away again in the next round: this is the ninth time in succession that we have failed to get a home draw in all FA cup competitions – for the statisticians among you, the odds against this happening is one in 512! This time we will make the trip up the A12 to our fellow Suffolk, Southern Central League rivals Lowestoft Town with a total of £9,000 up for grabs (£6,750 to the winners and £2,250 to the losers) on Saturday 21st September. Looking back in the club’s history at the corresponding Saturday fixtures over the last 10 years I see that last season on 15th September 2018 we drew 1-1 at home against Rushall Olympic with Jamie Griffiths getting MOTM and Luke Ingram our goal. Two years ago, on 16th September 2017 we beat Chesham Utd 2-0 at home in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup (the last time we were drawn at home inn FA cup competition) with Sam Nunn getting MOTM and goals from Dan Morphew and Callum Harrison. Three seasons ago on 10th September 2016 we beat Harrow Borough 3-0 away in a Ryman Premier League fixture with Danny Gay MOTM and goals from Michael Brothers (2) and Jack Curtis. Four years ago, on 12th September 2015 we drew 1-1 at home against Stanway Rovers in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with Luke Ingram MOTM and Sam Newson scoring. Five years ago, on 13th September 2014 we beat Cambridge City 4-2 away in the same round of the FA Cup with two goals from MOTM Sam Newson and one each from Ryan Crisp and Ace Howells. 3 NMkt v Barwell 14th Sept 2019 Chairman’s Notes (cont..) Six years ago on 14th September 2013 we beat Brantham Athletic 3-2 at home again in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with Ollie Brown MOTM and goals from Sam Newson (2) and Kem Izzet. Seven years on 15th September 2012 we lost 4-3 at home to Maidstone Utd in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy with MOTM Sam Newson scoring twice and Nathan Clarke once. Eight seasons ago on 17th September 2011 we drew 1-1 at home against Ely City in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with Gavin Johnson MOTM and Deakan Napier scoring the goal. Nine years ago, on 18th September 2010 in our first year in the Ryman One North we beat Harlow 2-1 away with Nathan Stone MOTM and goals from Rhys Barber and Craig Parker. Finally, ten seasons ago on 12st September 2009 we beat Sudbury 2-0 away in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with goals from MOTM Danny Smy and Danny Phillips. Returning to today’s visitors this is the third time we have played the Canaries having played them twice last year in our first season in the Southern Premier Central League. We lost 2-0 to them at home in August with Jake Dye getting MOTM and beat them 2-0 away in April with James Baker MOTM and goals from Jamie Griffiths and Adam Mills. They are currently 12th in the league with two wins and a draw from their first 6 games, one point behind us with our 8 pts from our six games in 11th. They won their FA Cup game 4-1 against AFC Mansfield and have been drawn against Hednesford away in the next round. They lost 3-0 away at Tamworth on Tuesday night in their Southern League Cup 1st Round fixture. As ever, let’s get behind the Marketmen as the 12th man and help ensure that it’s us that get the victory and another three points to get further up the table. Enjoy the game Keith 4 ****************************************************************** Needham Market Football Club Emergency Evacuation Procedure Needham Market Football Club has an agreed emergency policy to ensure the safe and controlled evacuation of the ground.
