Bank Aspirants - Read our Current Affairs Pocket PDF Current Affairs Questions & Answers PDF Current Affairs Quiz Competition on September 11 & 12 2 | Page Current Affairs PDF: August 2015 Indian Affairs Government revises scheme for Development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups About 75 tribal groups have been identified and categorized as particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) by the government with effect from April 1st 2015 To cater to their overall development, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has further revised the Development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) Scheme to provide 100 percent financial assistance through state governments. • The scheme focuses on activities such as housing, land distribution, land and agricultural development, animal husbandry, the construction of link roads, the installation of non-conventional sources of energy and other innovative activity. • The scheme is based on a Conservation-cum-Development (CCD) Plan prepared by concerned state governments on the basis of their requirements. • The government said that priority is accorded for the tribal community’s protection and improvement in terms of the social indicators like livelihood, health, nutrition and education, so as to decrease their vulnerability. • These tribal groups are located in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West-Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Delhi Govt launches country’s first witness Protection Scheme Country’s capital New Delhi has become the first state in the country to announce a scheme for witness protection notified by the Delhi Witness Protection Scheme,2015.For implementation of this scheme the government will make budgetary provisions in its annual budget. This scheme is for protecting witness in criminal cases.Government framed such policy following the directions of the high court which ,in the Jessica lal and Nitesh katara murder cases 3 | Page Current Affairs PDF: August 2015 The objective of the Scheme is to “ensure that the investigation ,prosecution and trial of criminal offences is not prejudiced because witnesses are frightened to give evidence without protection from violent or other criminal recrimination” ABOUT WITNESS PROTECTION SCHEME: • Government has appointed Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) as the competent authority for implementation of the scheme. All decisions and reviews will be under the purview of DSLSA. • The witness has to apply for protection following which DSLSA will ask a threat analysis report from Delhi Police • All hearings of applications will be held in-camera and full confidentially will be maintained. The witness will have the option of applying for concealment of identity. • Witnesses under three categories will be provided protection, depending on the threat perception. The categories have been draw up based on type of threat and duration for which the protection has to be given. • For example, if there is a threat to life and it affects the day-to-day activities of a witness for a substantial period during the investigation or even after that, then the person will be in the ‘A’ category. India’s first Harbour Defence System commissioned in Kochi Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Naval Command, inaugurated the first India’s harbor defence system named Integrated Underwater Harbor Defense And Surveillance System (IUHDSS) in Kochi,Kerala on JULY 31,2015. • This is first system of its kind in the country, was a part of Navy’s initiative to strengthen security of the coastline. • Designed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), ELTA of Israel. • The automatic system IUHDSS is capable of detecting, identifying, tracking and generating warning for all types of surface and underwater threats to harbor security. • It consists of Advanced Coastal Surveillance Radars, Electro-optic sensors and SONAR (Sound Navigation And Ranging) for detecting presence of divers and other underwater threats to security. 4 | Page Current Affairs PDF: August 2015 • The system was contracted by Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence in 2012. • The system will operate under the control of the Naval Officer-in-Charge of Kerala. Maharashtra Government announces construction of 800 kms Nagpur-Mumbai expressway Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the government will build an 800-km-long expressway connecting Mumbai with Nagpur by September 2019 on JULY 31, 2015. • Trough this Expressway, A road trip between Mumbai and Nagpur will soon take just 10 hours nearly half the time it currently takes to complete the journey. • The estimated cost of the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur expressway is Rs30,000 crore. • The project will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, four lanes will be built. In the second phase, the government proposes to concretize the road, add two more lanes, and build tunnels and the exit roads that will connect to smaller cities and villages. • This would be a six-lane road and in the first phase a four lane road would be constructed. This road will be equipped with CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi facility and optical fiber network. This project would be completed in coming five years and the travel time between the state capital and second capital would be brought down from 14 hours to 10 hours. Assam govt bans sale of drinking water brand Assam Government banned the sale of packed drinking water named “Spring Drop” manufactured by Morigaon-based Company for an initial period of 30 days with immediate effect on August 1, 2015. • The Government took this decision due to the following reports received from the Food Analyst and the Director of Referral Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, that the water sold by that brand name contained Chromium above permissible limit. 5 | Page Current Affairs PDF: August 2015 • The state government already banned the sale of Annapurna chilly sauce and Niyor packaged drinking water after it was found after laboratory tests confirmed presence of benzoic acid and fluoride beyond maximum permissible limits in the two products respectively. • Annapurna chilly sauce, manufactured by Satez Agro Products in Assam was found to have benzoic acid above the maximum permissible limit. • Niyor packaged drinking water, manufactured by Blue Bell Enterprise of Assam was found to contain fluoride higher than the maximum permissible limit. Tata Motors bags 914-cr order from Indian Army Tata Motors Ltd has bagged an order of Rs 914 crore from the Indian Army to supply 1,239 high mobility vehicles. Tata Motors along with Mahindra and Mahindra has also been short listed for supply of 3,192 vehicles to the Army, which is replacing Maruti Suzuki’s Gypsy and Mahindra Commander. • Tata Motor will supply indigenously developed 6×6 multi-axle trucks that are mainly functional for loading and unloading ammunition. • Army is planning to replace over 30,000 to 40,000 vehicles and going open its defence
