MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS September 24, 1952 The September meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the LaSalle HoteI, Chicago, Illinois, on N'ednesday, September 24, 1952, beginning at I I :GO a.m., Central Daylight Saving Time. When the Eoard convened, the following members were present: Mr. John R. Fornof, Xr. IIarold E. Grange, hlr. Robert Z. Hickman, Ilrs. Doris S. IIolt, hIr. Wayne A. Johnston, Mr. Park Livingston, llr. Herbert B. llegran, AIrs. Frances Tz. Watkins. Governor Adlai E. Stevenson and Mr. IVirt IIerrick were absent. hIr. Vernon L. Nickel1 joined the meeting later. Also present were President George D. Stoddard, Provost C. R. Griffith, Mr. Ralph F. Lesemann, Legal Counsel, Mr. Donald E. Dicka- son, Director of Nonacademic Personnel, Mr. Russell N. Sullivan, Chairniaii of the Konacademic Personnel Advisory Committee, "I. J. F. iVright, Director of Public Relations, Mr. Lloyd Morey, Comp- troller, llr. C. W.Weldon, Treasurer, and Mr. A. J. Janata, Secretary of the Board. Representative Paul Randolph, Twenty-ninth Senatorial District, General Assembly of Illinois, was a guest at the meeting. Mr. Douglas K. APPOINTMENTS TO THE FACULTY (I) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. CHANGES IN SABBATICAL LEAVES OF ABSENCE FOR I95 2 - 19 5 3 (2) I recommend the following changes in sabbatical leaves of absence approved by the Board of Trustees on March 12, 1952, for the academic year 1952-1953: EDWARDG. LEWIS, Associate Professor of Political Science, from leave of ab- sence on one-half pay during the first semester 1952-1953 and leave without pay during the second semester to leave without pay for one year from September I, 1952. The effect of this would be to cancel his sabbatical leave without prejudice to future applications. EDWARDJ. SCOTT,Assistant Professor of Mathematics, from leave of absence for one year on one-half pay to lcave for one-half year (first semester 1952-1953) on full pay. On motion of Mrs. Watkins, these changes were approved. DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF LAW FOR MARY HULL NAUMOFF (3) The Dean of the College of Law recommends that the degree of Doctor of Law (J.D.) be awarded Mrs. Mary Hull Naumoff as of August 20, 1951, instead of the degree of Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) which was awarded at that time. Mrs. Xaumoff 370 BOARD OF TRUSTEES [September 24 qualified for the J.D. degree but due to an error in the recording of one of her final grades she was recommended to the University Senate (and by the Senate to the Board of Trustees) as a candidate for the LL.B. degree. Since this is a clerical error, the Secretary of the Board requests that the Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees on September 19, 19j1, in which the degrees conferred as of August 20, 1951, are listed, be amended on page 1247 to show that Mrs. Mary Hull Naumoff has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Law. On motion of Mr. Hickman, this amendment of the minutes was adopted. COLLEGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE IN VETERINARY MEDICINE (4) The Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine recommends the following new appomtments to the advisory committee of the College of Veterinary Medicine for a term of three years beginning September I, 1952, for the terms indicated.
