Greene Stadium (7,086) | Washington DC Series: First Meeting Last Meeting: N/A Coaching Matchup: Kevin Callahan (134-110) vs.Gary Harrell (18-31) TODAY’S GAME: Both Monmouth and Howard come into today’s game looking to extend winning streaks after getting victories last weekend. The Hawks used a calculated two-point conversion on Saturday to edge Fordham in an overtime shootout, 42-41. MU rallied from a 13-0 deficit to tie it up only to watch the Rams capitalize on a pair of costly mistakes in the final 90 seconds of the second frame and take a 27-13 lead into the break. MU outscored the visitors 21-7 in the second half to send the game into OT. After Fordham took the lead 41-34 in overtime, Monmouth Head Coach Kevin Callahan elected to go for two instead of the tie after Ed Royds cut the deficit to one on his second TD of the day. Redshirt sophomore Cody Williams found Reggie White Jr. all alone in the back of the endzone and the Hawks secured their third win of the 2016 season. White Jr. had a career-day against the Rams, catching 10 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt sophomore from Randallstown, MD was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week while junior kicker Matt White was named conference special teams player of the week after scoring 10 points and averaging almost 49 yards per punt. The Monmouth passing attack, led by Wil- liams, leads the Big South with 211 yards per game while the Hawks continue to dominate time of possession this year, clocking in at 34:57 per game. Monmouth’s defense, led by senior Darnell Leslie and junior Mike Basile, has been stout against the pass in 2016. Basile, the Big South’s leading tackler, was recently named to the STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Year watch list. Howard, who returns home for the first time this season after opening with five straight road games, is coming off of a 33-28 win over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Norfolk State last Saturday. The Bison also had to rally in their victory, falling behind 21-12 at halftime, then allowing just seven points while scoring 21. Receiver Kyle Anthony scored two of those touchdowns while quarterback Da’Vaun Johnson threw two and ran another in. The win moved the Bison to 1-4 and 1-2 in league play, having also faced Hampton and rival Morgan State earlier this season. Howard opened the season with back to back games against B1G opponents Maryland and Rutgers, having played Rutgers to a 14-14 tie at halftime.
