7th Workshop on the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) Modelling Complex Socio-Technical Systems 11 - 13 September 2013, Munich, Germany Call for participation Following the tradition started in 2007, the seventh FRAMily workshop will take place on September 11-13, 2013. The meeting will be hosted by the Technische Universität München (http://www.tum.de/en/homepage/) and will take place at the campus in Garching. Objectives of the workshop The purpose of this workshop is to share experiences from the use of the FRAM, to solve problems, to discuss the continued development of the method, and to identify opportunities for improvements. • Discuss and exchange experiences on the use of the FRAM for modeling and analysing socio-technical systems • Receive support on your FRAM applications and industry projects • Learn about the latest developments and applications of the FRAM • How to use the FRAM for retrospective use (event analysis) • How to use the FRAM for prospective use (safety and risk assessments) • How to use the FRAM as a general modeling tool This workshop will feature two special sessions: . A tutorial for participants who have limited experience in using the FRAM. This will take place on the first day, and provide an understanding of the fundamentals, sufficient to benefit from the following sessions. (NB: This is NOT a FRAM course as such.) . A special session on the last day which reports on a three year collaboration on using the FRAM in Air Traffic Management. Audience The workshop is open to everyone regardless of their level of experience with FRAM. You are welcome to join us regardless of your level of experience with the FRAM - whether you consider yourself as a novice or an expert. The workshop will be of interest to people involved in accident investigation, risk analysis, safety management, and design in different industries as well as academia. Page 1 of 5 Workshop format The workshop will have an informal character in order to stimulate discussion. The programme will include: • Short presentations of participants’ cases and experiences (based on optional papers) • Discussion of specific FRAM issues or ideas based on participants’ experience (participants are encouraged to send discussion topics beforehand) • Future developments necessary/planned, such as software support for FRAM Topics, Presentations, Pre-proceedings There will be an opportunity for participants to suggest discussion topics and make short presentations. In order to support more in-depth discussions of FRAM ideas, issues, studies, or any other work that participants want to share, participants are encouraged to send in papers to the organizers. Discussion topics, presentation outlines, and papers may range from ideas or issues to descriptions of planned and on-going work, to discussions of cases or other studies. Submitted information will be made available to all participants as downloadable pre-proceedings so that participants can read them beforehand. While it is entirely optional to make a submission, all participants are strongly encouraged to contribute actively in in order for everyone to get the most out of the workshop. There will be a special invitation via the LinkedIn FRAMily group for volunteers to collaborate on a case study. The intention is to present this work and the analysis during the workshop. Documentation regarding this FRAM case (please see programme) will be made available in advance at the Linkedin FRAMily address (http://www.linkedin.com/groups/FRAMily-4553230? trk=myg_ugrp_ovr) as well as on the FRAM website (www.functionalresonance.com) so that participants may prepare their contributions to the discussion and the case analysis. Submissions Participants are invited to send in one or more of the following: • Suggestions for discussion topics (possible without an own presentation), • Suggestion for a presentation, as an abstract or outline (without paper), • Suggestion for a presentation, as an abstract or outline, followed by a paper. Topics, abstracts, outlines, and papers are to be sent by e-mail to both [email protected] and [email protected] Important dates Topics/abstracts (optional, max. 1 page) due: 15 June 2013 Feedback on abstracts to authors: 30 June 2012 Papers (optional, 2-12 pages) due: 20 August 2013 Page 2 of 5 Workshop registration deadline: 15 August 2013 Distribution of papers to participants: 05 September 2013 7th FRAM Workshop: 11-13 September 2013 Practical Information News about the workshop will be distributed to the FRAMily group at LinkedIn.
