17/08/2017 Ensemble of artists will represent Yukon culture at Arctic Winter Games| Government of Yukon news release FOR RELEASE January 29, 20 14 Ensemble of artists will represent Yukon culture at Arctic Winter Games WHITEHORSE—Six young performing artists will represent Team Yukon’s cultural contingent at the Arctic Winter Games in Fairbanks, Alaska in March 2014. “The Arctic Winter Games are a great opportunity for young performers to collaborate with their peers from across the circumpolar North,” Minister of Tourism and Culture Mike Nixon said. “This year Team Yukon’s cultural delegation includes six talented artists who will make a big impression on international audiences in Fairbanks.” Team Yukon’s cultural delegates are Alita Powell, Cassandra MacDonald, Nicole Murdoch, Kara- lyn Fredrickson, Emile St. Pierre and Kevin McLachlan. These artists comprise the Yukon Performing Arts Ensemble and they created a special performance for the games called Aurora Connections. This piece uses a combination of breakdancing and contemporary dance to tell a story of adventure and love. “We are excited to be part of Team Yukon and to represent the territory that has shaped us into the artists we are today,” McLachlan said. “We are eager to perform and collaborate with other passionate individuals from across the North and to learn about the diverse cultures represented by the other contingents.” The Arctic Winter Games cultural program is an important part of the event and includes daily performances and gala concerts as well as cultural exchange and collaboration with artists from other contingents. The Team Yukon delegates were chosen through a call for applications. The Arctic Winter Games will take place from March 15 to 22 and include nine teams: Alaska, Alberta North, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik-Québec, Greenland, Sapmi, Yamal and Yukon.
