Assistant Professor of Sociology The School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Navarra seeks to fill a tenure track, full-time, Assistant Professor position of Sociology, to begin September 2020. The initial contract will be for one year, and, depending on performance and mutual interests, it may be extended to a second year. Advanced candidates may eventually apply for tenure. AOS: Sociology AOC: Sociology, Political Theory, History of Political Ideas Requirements - Candidates will have a PhD in Sociology by the date of the commencement of the position. PhDs in Political Sociology are especially encouraged. - The candidate will teach in English to both Spanish and international students for the PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) program, as well as “Intro to Sociology” courses to first year students for other degrees on campus. - Duties include teaching 2 or 3 courses per semester and assisting with program development. Part of the candidate's teaching may be on Core Curriculum subjects. Any previous experience in the teaching of Core Curriculum courses and knowledge of its principles (www.unav.edu/en/web/core-curriculum/what-is-it/principles) will be very positively considered. In light of these principles, the ideal candidate will appreciate the relevance of culture and society in configuring individuals’ identities, demonstrate knowledge of Christianity and religion, and inspire in their students a reflective attitude to the challenges of contemporary life. Demonstrated research excellence or promise of research in his/her AOS is expected. The School of Humanities will take into consideration the successful candidate's ability to lead research and contribute to the development of the PPE program, to be genuinely committed to students and show a collaborative spirit with colleagues and administrative staff. Candidates with administrative experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
