Volety and Dr. Fred Jean for their support and patience throughout this journey. You he both been incredible mentors and I am forever grateful for the countless hours spent helping through the many bumps along the road. Aswani thank you for pushing me to continuously improve, the encouragement step out of my comfort zone (quite frequently) and the support to succeed. Thank you for your patience on the days when I would come roaring into your office like a mad man. With calm, and sometime quick discussions you were always able to get my head back on straight and my nerves settled down. This project and dissertation would not have been possible without your endless support. Fred, what a journey DEB has been. I don’t know who told you I was a modeling person, but man was I in for a surprise! Thank you for all your patience with my very steep learning curve and often frantic emails. Even when I was still incredibly confused, with a simple French “phhh” you were able to renew my motivation to defeat my problems with DEB or at least keep trying... To my committee, Drs. Philippe Soudant, Julien Thébault and Ronald Toll for aid in planning of projects, editing of manuscripts and support throughout this program. I wish you could be here to help celebrate the finale! Lesli Haynes, you really did keep my head from popping off on MANY occasions. I am so grateful for all of the help throughout this program, whether it was saving me with intern help at the last minute or just talking me off the ledge and back down to reality. It was always a re-motivating breath of fresh air to come down to the marine lab for a quick jam session. We shall most definitely raise a glass (or more) of Tito’s to celebrate this crazy journey! Bob Wasno, to many, many long days at the field station and countless field days; cold winter waters, getting thumped by territorial goliath grouper we couldn’t see, somehow managing to collect mussels with only 1” of visibility or none at all, sneak attacks from manatee, jelly fish stings…..the list goes on! And thank you for always knowing when it was Yingling time, which didn’t always mean it was time to stop working. I think we had some pretty brilliant ideas (not to mention building the red fish tank) over Yinglings in the Tuna Tower and pitchers at the Fish House. Thank you! David Segal, thank you SO much for being such a reliable and AMAZING science partner. I cannot tell you how amazing it was to get on the boat and know that you had the deck under control. You made my field days so easy knowing I had someone on board that I could trust to get the work done and make the right calls while I was underwater. And for somehow completely understanding what I was trying to explain while slightly insane and brain fried, probably not making any sense at all. And for moving at high speed when we had hundreds of samples to homogenize when the MixerMill finally arrived. You are the BEST! I truly could not have asked for a better lab mate to be by my side through this craziness! I am so glad we were able to work together, it was an absolute pleasure. To Romain Lavaud who guided me through the crazy world of DEB and who on many occasions kept my head from exploding. Romain without you I really would still be stuck at the DEB starting line. You have been an amazing support this past year, I don’t think I would have survived it without you! A huge thank you to students and staff of the Coastal Watershed Institute and Vester Marine Research Station for instrumental aid during field and laboratory work. Bob Wasno and David Segal for aid in the collection of mussels, even on holidays and weekends. And to Lesli Haynes, Lindsay Castret and David Segal for always being quick to help when I was in a bind and who were always there to keep me sane when things got crazy.
