Attendance: 1,112. 2001-02 FIGHTING IRISH WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FEBRUARY 5, 2002 NOTRE DAME AT PITTSBURGH SCOUTING THE IRISH Notre Dame looks to write a new chapter in its rapidly-developing history as the Irish defend their first Page 2 NCAA championship in 2001-02. Six monogram winners, including two starters, return from last season’s title-winning squad, giving head coach Muffet McGraw a broad foundation from which to build this year. In addition, the Irish welcome six talented freshmen to the fold, a group heralded as perhaps the finest recruiting class in school history and ranked as high as third by several national publications. ASSOCIATED PRESS POLL McGraw is in her 20th season as a college coach (15th at Notre Dame) with a 423-165 (.719) overall (Jan. 28) record and 335-124 (.730) mark while under the shadow of the Golden Dome.
