Announcement: Conference Committee: The Senate President named the following as Senate Conferees on the National Agricultural Seeds Council Bill 2011: (l) Senator Bello H. Matter of Urgent Public Importance: Rising on Rules 42 and 52, Senator Ayogu Eze (Enugu North) drew the attention of the Senate to the persistent killings through bomb blasts in the nation. He sought and obtained the leave of the Senate to present the matter forthwith. That the Senate may recall with serious concern, the unprovoked and dastardly incident of 1st October, 2010, close to the Eagle Square, Abuja where people lost their lives in multiple bomb blasts; Notes that during the recent Democracy Day, May 29,2011 there were bomb blasts in Zuba, outskirt of Abuja, Bauchi, Maiduguri and Zaria which led to loss of lives and property; and Exhorts that in the face of these attacks and threats, Security Agencies must adequately prepare and brace up their machinery by focusing on intelligence gathering that will enable us contend with events of such magnitude in the future; Accordingly resolves to: (I) urge the Security Agencies to uncover the masterminds of these bombings; and (il) urge the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation to re- organise and re-position the Police Force and other Security Agencies as apart of his transformation programme (Senator Ayogu Eze - Enugu North). No. 79 Tuesday, 31st Mav, 2011 1161 Proposed Resolution (ii): That the Senate do urge the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation to re-organise and re-position the Police Force and other Security Agencies as apart of his transformation programme, Amendment Proposed: Leave out the provision in Proposed Resolution (ii) and insert the following instead thereof: "That the Senate do urge the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation to strengthen the Security Agencies to be able to carry out their functions effectively"(Senator Nimi Barigha-Amange - Bayelsa East). Question that the amendment be made, put and agreed to. Resolved: (I) That the Senate do urge the Security Agencies to uncover the masterminds of these bombing; and (ii) That the Senate do urge the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation to strengthen the Security Agencies to be able to carry out their functions effectively (SIResI092104111). 6.
