2017-18 YEAR-IN-REVIEW Collectively, North Georgia combined for a 70% winning percent- age and claimed 11 conference championships and six NCAA postseason appearances in the field of competition, posted a department-best 3.19 grade point average in the classroom and earned the Peach Belt Conference’s LeeAnn Noble Make-A-Wish award for the ninth straight year. Three programs (women’s basketball, softball and women’s tennis) each reached the Sweet 2018-2019 16 round of NCAA championship play. 82 College Circle • Dahlonega, GA 30597 Circle 82 College CLUB ATHLETIC NIGHTHAWKS North Georgia of University MEMBERSHIP North Georgia teams won Peach Belt Conference champion- ships in women’s soccer (regular season), cross country, women’s APPLICATION basketball (regular season and tournament) and softball (regular season and tournament). The UNG rifle program also claimed its second consecutive Southern Conference championship in March. Eight different UNG teams were ranked among the top-25 nationally at one point during their season, highlighted by the Nighthawk softball program earning a No. 1 ranking for three consecutive weeks. North Georgia narrowly missed earning its second straight PBC Commissioner’s Cup, finishing second to Columbus State by less than a tenth of a point. Nighthawk athletics finished inside the top-100 in the Learfield Cup standings (87th) for the third time in the past four years and claimed the local Battle of Blood Moun- tain trophy for the fifth straight time. The department’s 3.19 grade point average is the highest in the past five years and is nearly three-tenths higher than the general student population’s mark of a 2.90 over the 2017-18 academic year. The academic year also saw 66 student-athletes finish the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Within the community, UNG donated the most funds ($31,875) of all member institutions to the NCAA Division II Make-A-Wish campaign. The men’s basketball and baseball teams also part- nered with TEAM IMPACT, a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life- changing outcomes. In a continued commitment to first-class facilities, UNG also opened the $37-million Convocation Center by hosting a confer- ence doubleheader basketball game in February as well as the PBC women’s basketball tournament.
