Overview This document highlights the new features and changes that have been made to Lotus Notes® Traveler for version 9 Beta. IBM® Notes Traveler provides automatic, two-way, over-the-air sync capability between Lotus® Domino® servers and wireless handheld devices, including Android, Apple, Windows Mobile, Nokia S60 Third and Fifth Edition devices, Nokia Symbian ^3 devices, Windows Phone 7.5, Windows Phone 7.8, Windows Phone 8.0, and Windows RT devices. For more information about existing features of IBM Notes Traveler, as well as detailed installation and setup guides, see the following 8.5.3 Upgrade Pack 2 wiki documentation: v Administering v Using 1 2 IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta Chapter 2. New features IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta adds support for the following new features: To Do sync support for IBM Notes Traveler for Android and Apple iOS devices This beta release provides 2-way sync support for Domino To Do data. Using the new IBM Notes Traveler To Do application on an Android or Apple iOS device, mobile users can: v Review upcoming To Do's using several different views v Complete To Do's or remove them entirely v Create new To Do's v Organize To Do's into lists v Sync attachments as part of To Do data To sync To Do data on Apple iOS devices, you must first download the free IBM Notes Traveler To Do application from the Apple app store. Windows Phone device support Devices running the following Windows Phone versions are now supported by IBM Notes Traveler 9, including: v Windows Phone 7.5 v Windows Phone 7.8 v Windows Phone 8 Windows RT device support Devices running Windows RT have limited support with IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta. IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta supports two-way sync of Mail and Contacts on these devices using the built-in Exchange account. In addition, Calendar data can be synced and viewed on the Windows RT device, but it is not recommended to make calendar changes on the device at this time as further work is in progress to validate calendar support beyond the viewing of events. See Chapter 10, “Using a Windows RT device,” on page 27 for more information on capabilities. Updated IBM Notes Traveler server operating system support IBM Notes Traveler now supports additional operating system platforms, including: v IBM i (see Chapter 5, “IBM Notes Traveler setup on IBM i,” on page 9 for more information) v Windows Server 2012 v Redhat 6 64-bit mode (IBM Notes Traveler now runs in native 64-bit mode when installed with IBM Domino 64-bit.) v Suse 11 64-bit mode (IBM Notes Traveler now runs in native 64-bit mode when installed with IBM Domino 64-bit.) 3 Note: Support for Redhat 5 and Suse 10 has been removed as those operating system levels are not supported by the Domino 9 server. 4 IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta Chapter 3. Downloading IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta To download the Beta, following the procedure in this section. 1. Go to the download site and login with your IBM ID. Note: If you don't have an IBM user ID, then click the Register here link to create one. You will receive an e-mail confirming your new IBM user ID has been created. You can then return to the beta download site and sign in. 2. Please answer a few questions about your company and yourself, and whether you would like to be contacted by IBM. 3. Review the beta license agreement. If you agree with its terms, check I agree. 4. Click I confirm at the bottom of the page to display the download page. 5. Select and download the Beta files of interest to you. v For Windows installations: traveler90_win_public_beta.zip. v For Linux installations: traveler90_linux_public_beta.tar. v For IBM i installations: traveler90_i_public_beta.zip 6. Scroll down and once again check I agree to the license terms. 7. Please let us know what you think of this beta release by providing feedback in the ND Social Edition and Traveler public beta forum. IBM Notes Traveler 9 public beta installation is nearly identical to Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.3 Upgrade Pack 2 installation. For detailed installation and setup instructions, refer to the IBM Notes Traveler 8.5.3 Upgrade Pack 2 product documentation. 5 6 IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta Chapter 4. Software and device prerequisites The IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta has the following software requirements for use. Note: The IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta is only available in the English language version. Domino Server support IBM Notes Traveler 9 running in Standalone mode may be installed on any of the following: v Domino 9 Enterprise Server v Domino 9 Messaging Server IBM Notes Traveler 9 running in High Availability mode is only licensed to run on and may only be installed on the following: v Domino 9 Enterprise Server Remote mail database support IBM Notes Traveler server can connect to remote mail databases hosted by Domino 7.0.2 servers or above. The Domino remote mail server can be any operating system supported by Domino. Mail file template support IBM Notes Traveler server supports Notes standard and iNotes mail file templates, version 6.5 and above. Enterprise database requirements IBM Notes Traveler High Availability mode requires an enterprise database which is accessed by all IBM Notes Traveler servers in a common service pool. The following enterprise databases are supported. v DB2 Enterprise Server Edition v9.7, fixpack 5 or higher. 64-bit version recommended. v DB2 Workgroup Server Edition v9.7, fixpack 5 or higher. 64-bit version recommended. v Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition 2008 SP1 CU1 or higher. 64-bit version recommended. v Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition 2008 R2 SP1 CU1 or higher. 64-bit version recommended. See the database product documentation for information on its hardware and software requirements. Server operating systems IBM Notes Traveler 9 supports a subset of the operating systems supported by IBM Domino 9. The following platforms are supported: v Windows 2008 R2 - 64 bit 7 v Windows 2012 - 64 bit v SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 64-bit v Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 x86-64 v IBM i 6.1 v IBM i 7.1 IBM i operating systems IBM i 6.1 and 7.1 server operating systems support IBM Notes Traveler on both 32-bit and 64-bit JVMs. The following software is required on IBM i operating systems: v Domino for IBM i - Domino 9.0 (5733LD9) v IBM Developer Kit for Java 5761JV1 (7.1 and 6.1) Base plus – Option 11: J2SE 6.0 32-bit JVM – Option 12: J2SE 6.0 64-bit JVM v IBM Toolbox for Java – V6R1 5761JC1 – V7R1 5770SS1 option 3 Device operating systems IBM Notes Traveler 9 supports the following device operating systems: v Apple iOS 4 and higher (includes iOS 5 and iOS 6) v Android 2.2 and higher (includes Android 3 and Android 4) v Windows RT v Windows Phone 7.5 v Windows Phone 7.8 v Windows Phone 8 IBM Notes Traveler 9 supports connections from the following device platforms running the latest recommended maintenance for the Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.3 client software. Note that IBM Notes Traveler 9 beta does not include these clients in the shipping server install package. For this beta, if these clients are required for end user devices, it is recommended that you first install Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.3 and then upgrade that system to IBM Notes Traveler 9. During the upgrade process, the client installation files for these platforms will be migrated to the proper location to work on an IBM Notes Traveler 9 server. v Nokia Series 60 3rd and 5th edition v Nokia Symbian^3 v Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5 8 IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta Chapter 5.
