Several Huskies are on the cusp in their respective events and know exactly what it will take this Saturday to move on to the big stage. Outdoor The Final Qualifier smallest and quickest of meets on the Dempsey schedule, as teams will only send a handful of Date Meet Location athletes with realistic chances of making it to nationals. However there will also be a large UW contingent simply Mar. 24 Trojan Invitational Los Angeles, Calif. using the meet as a last chance to set PRs and build momentum for outdoors, in addition to the group still looking Mar. 29-31 Texas Relays Austin, Texas to reach Boise. Action begins in the field and on the track at 11 a.m., and the meet should be wrapped up by 3 p.m. Apr. 6-7 Stanford Invitational Palo Alto, Calif. Apr. 7 Pepsi Team Invitational Eugene, Ore. April 28 at Washington State Pullman, Wash. Sophomore Megan Goethals is also qualified at both 3,000- and 5,000-meters. May 4 WWU Twilight Invite Bellingham, Wash. May 5-6 Pac-12 Multi-Events Eugene, Ore. The Huskies currently rank seventh nationally, but do not have the Auto mark and therefore June 6-9 NCAA Championships Des Mones, Iowa want to keep their place with a good showing. All four Huskies may also run open events, as McNeal is ranked 22nd in the 400-meters and Bywater and Soberanis are in the top-50 nationally in the mile. The first are 2012 USTFCCCA Week 6 Indoor Rankings those looking to still force their way into the NCAA meet. The second are gunning for personal-bests this week, Men Women 1 Florida 188.49 1 Oregon 192.15 or competing in track events a little outside their comfort zones. 2 Arkansas 135.65 2 Arkansas 138.55 3 Texas A&M 123.78 3 Clemson 136.13 The critical races for the Huskies on Saturday look to be the women’s mile run and the women’s 3,000-meters. In the 4 LSU 104.93 4 LSU 127.57 mile, sophomore Chelsea Orr, junior Justine Johnson, freshman Eleanor Fulton, and sophomore Mackenzie Carter 5 Arizona 96.68 5 Texas A&M 110.21 6 Texas 92.10 6 Kansas 87.43 will all run in the fast heat and chase the NCAA mark in a very strong field which could have Katie Flood setting the 7 Arizona State 86.48 7 Florida 83.28 pace for a few laps. Junior Christine Babcock is entered in the mile, and also in the 3,000-meters, and will likely run 8 BYU 76.03 8 California 76.82 one or the other. She has not run a mile this year, but currently ranks 31st nationally with her season-best in the 3k. 9 Minnesota 75.76 9 BYU 63.94 10 Stanford 73.66 10 WASHINGTON 63.82 11 Virginia Tech 68.71 11 Stanford 57.20 The field events provide a lot more intrigue as several Huskies will look to break through. Freshman J.J. Juilfs is 12 Mississippi State 66.90 12 Southern Illinois 54.50 tied for 17th in the pole vault with his season best of 17-7. That may hold up but Juilfs’ chances would improve 13 Indiana 62.14 13 Arizona 53.98 greatly with a couple more centimeters on that PR. Junior Logan Miller is also coming off an indoor PR of 13-4 1/2 14 Georgia 59.32 14 UCF 53.29 15 Kansas State 54.36 15 Iowa State 52.67 in the women’s vault, but she’ll need another big PR to get to nationals as she currently ranks 34th. Senio Robby 16 Florida State 51.62 16 Tennessee 51.63 Fegles also ranks 35th in the men’s vault and needs to go over a big bar with Juilfs. Sophomore high jumper A.J. 17 Ohio State 44.95 17 Ohio State 51.16 Maricich has been on the verge of seven-feet all season. He’ll be gunning for that bar on Saturday, though it will 18 Nebraska 42.95 18 Texas 50.61 likely take 7-3 to advance to Boise. 19 Auburn 38.76 19 TCU 44.47 20 Oregon 36.73 20 Florida State 43.24 21 Mississippi 36.64 21 Georgetown 40.40 Triple jumpers Kasen Covington and Taylor Nichols are both coming off season-bests at the MPSF Championships 22 NC State 35.00 22 Georgia 40.11 and are looking to catch that one big leap that could put them in the mix. One of just two competitors in the women’s 23 Princeton 34.31 23 Texas Tech 40.11 weight throw, senior Elisa Bryant will need a big personal-best toss to move up from her current 40th-place standing 24 Oklahoma 33.50 24 Wisconsin 39.86 25 Northern Arizona 31.68 25 Auburn 39.01 and get a second career NCAA Indoor bid.
