2002 Rays' Banquet

RAYS’ Annual Picnic and Meeting May 7, 2011 Agenda Lunch Guest Speaker – Jeremy Linn Awards – Coaches Parent Meeting – Kathleen Shafer Election of Officers Closing remarks – Kathleen Shafer Dear RAYS Swimmers and Parents, I would like to say that it has truly been an honor and a privilege to work so closely with such an amazing group of coaches, parents, and board members. It is inspiring to witness the enduring dedication of our coaches who work so hard to evoke passion, devotion, and fortitude within our children for the love of swimming. They teach our children skills that they can use not only within the swimming community, but skills that our children can take with them for the rest of their lives. It is through this commitment of our coaches, and the strong commitment from our swimmers that they generate, that our own RAYS’ Swim Team is ranked in the top 5% of all the teams in the nation. Being a part of such an elite team is an opportunity that will change our children’s lives! They learn responsibility, discipline, the value of hard work, time management skills, and so much more. I hope that every parent on this team is able to realize what an amazing opportunity is before our children and that they are inspired to unite, for the betterment of our children, to support the team, and help volunteer at our RAYS’ swim functions. Volunteering is not only beneficial to our children and our team, but it provides us, the parents, with an opportunity to get to know one another, to make friends, and to unify as a community. I appreciate everyone’s belief and trust in me by electing me into this presidency and I only hope that this year has been as amazing for you as it was for me. Best Wishes, Kathleen Shafer RAYS’ President – 2010-2011 Jeremy Linn In his four years at the University of Tennessee, Jeremy fulfilled every dream an athlete could have. The Harrisburg, Penn. native established records, won both team and individual championships and carried the name of Tennessee swimming into international competition. He was crowned SEC Champion six times as an individual in addition to leading five relay squads to first place finishes. A three-time SEC Swimmer of the Year, he became only the third swimmer to win the same event, the 100-yard breaststroke, for four consecutive years at the SEC Championships. The crowning accomplishment of Jeremy's SEC dominance, however, was helping the Volunteers claim the 1996 SEC team title. On the NCAA Championship stage, Linn was no less spectacular. The spunky Pennsylvanian won individual national titles a total of four times. Jeremy became the first Vol to claim two individual titles (100 & 200 Breaststroke) at a single NCAA meet since Andy Coan in 1979. All told, Jeremy won 17 All-America honors in his four years at UT. Outside the scope of collegiate competition, Jeremy has proven himself to be one of the top breaststroke swimmers in the world. At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, he won the silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke, establishing an American record. Jeremy also played a vital role on America's gold medal winning 400-meter medley relay that bested an eight-year-old world record by two seconds. He followed his 1996 Olympic effort with a gold medal performance in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 1997 U.S. Open Championships. In his twenty five years of swimming experience, Jeremy has had the opportunity to learn from many of the greatest swimming minds ever. Combined with experience at the highest level of competition and a degree in Psychology, Jeremy has created theories and philosophies of swimming and competition that he delivers like only he can. He has traveled nationally and internationally to administer swimming clinics and motivational talks.
