Bike Around the Bay is a fully supported two-day, 170-mile bicycle ride around Galveston Bay that showcases the natural beauty of Galveston Bay and benefits the Galveston Bay Foundation. Now in its eleventh year, Bike Around the Bay began with the goal of bringing people together from all over to see and experience Galveston Bay. Many people are unaware of the rich ecological diver- sity so close to Houston, so this event was designed to bring awareness to its importance. In the spirit of this special place, all proceeds from the event benefit the Galveston Bay Foundation and support programs and projects that preserve and enhance Galveston Bay. The majority of riders responding to a 2016 post-event sur- vey said they would consider participating in Bike Around the Bay again and that they would encour- age other cyclists to participate. The majority of Bike Around the Bay riders are upwardly mobile, with 80 percent having a bachelor’s or advanced degree and 68 percent have a household income of $75,000 or higher, with 21 percent higher than $200,000.
