"Generation X, My Judaism, and College." RELIGIOUS SCHOOL REPORTS ------------------ BY RABBI LIZ RoLLE, DIRECTOR BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS We Jews have long been known as the People of the Book. Actually, it's the People of THE Book. THE Book is the Bible, including our beloved Torah, along with the books of the Prophets and the Writings. But our relationship with THE Book has lead to our relationship with books in general. Maybe we are the People of the Books. (Certainly if you look in my office and those of Rabbi Straus and Cantor Wisnia you would think so!) And NOVEMBER is JEWISH BOOK MONTH! We celebrate books and our love and enjoyment of them with three special events. On Friday evening NOVEMBER 7, Rabbi Steve Rosman will be our guest storyteller during the service. In addition, our fourth graders will have parts in this family service which begins at 7:30. On Sunday morning, NOVEMBER 16, our guest authors will be MaIka Drucker and Gay Block. Their book about right eous gentiles who helped Jews during the Holocaust, Rescuers: Portraits of Moral Courawas made into a movie which recent ly aired on Showtime. On November 16, they will be speaking with our students during Religious School. And, all the while, our annual Book Fair will be under way. From November 7-22, you may buy books for fun (personally, it sounds like heaven to me), for gifts (Chanukkah IS coming, even if it's a little "late" this year) and for profit (the school's profit, that is!!). So come, browse, savor, buy and help the school all at the same time. This year, we are again grateful to Debbie Mannella for chairing the Book Fair. If you would like to help her before, during or after the fair, please call to let her know, 215-295-0158. Read on!
