How Do You Trap Antimatter? z Penning trap for charged particles. z Ioffe trap to capture neutral particles. z Current experiment: only a Penning trap. z Experiment to be installed next week: Nested P ennin g an d I off e tr aps. z Big challenge: keeping track of magnetic fields w ith the nested trap. My Current Project z Positrons are not emitted near our experiment, we must get them there. z Use electrodes, similar to a Penning trap, to ‘scoot’ positrons along. z Weeo know wh apoeasat potentials Positron source we put on the electrodes, Electrode stack but the positrons see the potential at the center of the electrode. Experiment / Trap LabVIEW Program ••NeedNeed to efficiently bbltlltbe able to calculate the potential at the center of the electrode ‘stack’. ••CC code isn’t working properly, so the LabVIEW program I wrote is giving nonnon-- physical outputs. ••DependingDepending on depth of problem, I may have to learn C to debug the program.
