Cryptostylis Distribu on and Co-Occurrence: a Ci Zen Science

Cryptostylis distribuon and co-occurrence: a cizen science project I’m a PhD student at the Australian Naonal University conducng an Australian Orchid Foundaon funded research project invesgang the ecology of Cryptostylis. I’m aer some local help to fulfil two of my project aims; • Idenfy the preferred habitat of each of the Cryptostylis species – parcularly important for the conservaon of the rare C. hunteriana! • Determine how oen the Cryptostylis species co-occur vs occur alone and at what scale – does their distribuon explain the absence of hybrids? If you see any Cryptostylis around it would be greatly appreciated if you could take this field data sheet with you and fill it out to help with my research ☺ Date _________ Name of observer(s)_____________________________________________________ Site (one data sheet per site) GPS point and /or accurate locaon descripon (all locaon informaon will be kept confidenal and is required only to accurately predict habitat preference) _______________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ _ Species observed (please ck) Approximate number of flowering stems present Cryptostylis erecta l (if known) - Bonnet Orchid - Tartan Tongue Orchid ______ Cryptostylis leptochila f ______ - Small Tongue Orchid Cryptostylis subulata l ______ - Large Tongue Orchid Cryptostylis hunteriana L ______ - Leafless Tongue Orchid Approximate area surveyed: ________ x ________ m (esmate only) Observer contact details (oponal for follow up, will receive a copy of ensuing publicaons): ____________________________________________________________________________ Please return your data via email (can use smartphone photos) or post: Alyssa Weinstein [email protected] Division of Ecology & Evoluon Research School of Biology Thank you for your ANU College of Science contribuon to the project Gould Building, 116 Daley Rd The Australian Naonal University ☺ Acton 2601 ACT .
