NIPS is an executive agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ) which is a part of the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS). It is responsible for the operation and delivery of services within the Northern Ireland prison system. The Service operates under the direction and control of the Department of Justice. Central Stores at Maghaberry Central Stores at HMP Maghaberry, is a 556m2 area with 6 separate Store Areas of varying sizes. It is located within the Prison Complex. It is the central location for the supply of stock items to the 3 Prison Establishments within Northern Ireland. It also supplies items to an additional 4 areas within the Prison Estate. Stock ranges from toothbrushes to industrial bins. Maghaberry Prison - a high security prison, housing adult male long-term sentenced and remand prisoners in separated and integrated conditions. Magilligan Prison - a medium security prison, housing shorter-term sentenced adult male prisoners. This establishment also has low security accommodation for selected prisoners nearing the end of their sentence. Hydebank College - a medium to low security establishment accommodating male remand and sentenced young offenders between the ages of 16 and 21 and all female prisoners including young offenders and female immigration detainees. The main administrative centre for NIPS, Prison Service Headquarters, is located on the Stormont Estate, Belfast. Further details on the Northern Ireland Prison Service are available at www.dojni.gov.uk/ni-prison-service. Version 15 3 JOB DESCRIPTION There is currently 1 permanent, full time vacancy. Further appointments may be made from this competition should NICS positions become vacant which require the same eligibility criteria and have similar duties and responsibilities. Location The post holder will be based at Central Stores, HMP, Maghaberry, Lisburn. Please note that Central Stores is located within the Prison complex. Candidates may also, on occasion, be required to work in other Northern Ireland Prison Service establishments. Salary The salary for this post is £16,463 per annum (subject to 2017 pay award) Hours of Work The normal conditioned hours of work are full-time, 37 hours per week excluding meal breaks, Monday to Friday. Flexi-time is available. On occasion, overtime may be available Travel The successful candidate must have access to a form of transport which will enable them to fulfil their responsibilities. Holidays In addition to public and privilege holidays, currently 12 days, the annual leave allowance will be 25 days, increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service. Vetting Requirements The post holder will be required to have Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) clearance. Version 15 4 Probation Confirmation of your appointment will be dependent upon the satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 1 year. If your performance, conduct or attendance during this period is not satisfactory your appointment may be terminated. All appointees will be expected to demonstrate a track record of effective service within this period. Picking Requisitions (for stock) for various Establishments within the Northern Ireland Prison Service. 2. Checking for accuracy of incoming Goods to the Central Stores Unit. 3. Completion of Goods Receipt Notes in agreement with Senior Storeperson. 4. Moving Stock to appropriate Areas within the Central Stores Unit for storage, using various pieces of Machinery eg. Forklift Truck, Reach Truck. 5. Assisting in the movement of Stores items onto Cages and Pallets for delivery to appropriate Locations. 6. Assisting in Stock Checks and carrying out counts on a regular basis. 7. Responsibility for the general cleanliness and tidiness of the Stores. Areas for maintenance: Kitchen Ladies and Gents Toilets Admin. Offices Corridors Ensure Bins are emptied and Rubbish stored in appropriate external Bins. 8. Carrying out various Adhoc Duties, e.g. Special Stock checks several Times per year. Occasional additional Duties to be agreed with Senior Storeperson. 9. An Awareness of Health and Safety Legislation around working in a Stores/Warehouse environment. 10. Inputting basic Data onto a Uniform Management System. The above list is not exhaustive but gives a good indication of the main duties of the post. The emphasis on particular duties will vary over time according to business needs. Version 15 6 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Applicants must, by the closing date for applications have: 1. At least 1 years stores experience gained within the last 5 years; AND 2. Demonstrable experience of using Database IT systems. SHORTLISTING CRITERIA In addition applicants should be aware that after an eligibility sift, should it be necessary to shortlist candidates to go forward to the next stage of selection, the following shortlisting criteria will be used in the order listed: 1. A Current Forklift Truck License 2. A Current Reach Truck License Version 15 7 Please note: . In addition, they will also be required to demonstrate the skills and competencies set out in the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) competence framework at Level 1 for the purposes of personal and professional development. Stores Person is analogous to Industrial I in the NICS. What is the NICS competency framework? The competency framework sets out how all NICS employees should work. It puts the Civil Service values of integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality at the heart of everything they do, and it aligns to the three high-level leadership behaviours that every civil servant needs to model as appropriate to their role and level of responsibility: Set Direction; Engage People and Deliver Results. Competencies are the skills, knowledge and behaviours that lead to successful performance. The framework outlines ten competencies, which are grouped into three clusters. The competencies are intended to be discrete and cumulative, with each level building on the levels below i.e. a person demonstrating a competency at level 3 should be demonstrating levels 1 and 2 as a matter of course.
