Female* Senior Caseworker Position: Female* Senior Caseworker Salary: £25,000 pro rata Hours: 37.5 hours p/w Days of work: Monday - Friday Contract Type: Permanent Benefits: 4% employer pension contribution, health and wellbeing package, 25 day annual leave entitlement pro rata (+bh) *Please note that due to the nature of the post, this is a female only position in accordance with The Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1. Location: Snowdrop Project Offices, Sheffield City Centre Reporting to: Casework manager Direct reports: Up to 5 volunteer caseworkers 1. Background information 1.1. Snowdrop Project is the first UK charity to provide long term, reintegration and community support to survivors of human trafficking. Our aims are to empower survivors of human trafficking to live lives no longer defined by their past, to reduce the risk of trafficking and re-trafficking, to create and implement models of best practice and to share this knowledge with other agencies and individuals on both a national and international scale. 1.2. We provide one to one support that is tailored to meet the holistic needs of the individual and carried out by trained staff and volunteer case workers and counsellors 1.3. We provide access to support and community networks either through signposting, partnership working or implementing snowdrop programmes 1.4. We help make a house a home through painting, decorating and sourcing basic furniture for permanent houses provided by the council 1.5. We provide training and consultation to case workers, befrienders and other organisations and charities in topics surrounding trafficking and reintegration support 1.6. We raise funds through events, donor relations and sponsorships to support the work to support survivors of human trafficking 1.7. We inform national development through participation in national working groups and contributing or writing relevant research 2. Role Description This role is designed to ensure the provision of holistic and empowering support to survivors of human trafficking with complex needs either through direct support or the supervision of trained volunteers. 3. Specific responsibilities 3.1. Providing one to one support: This person will be responsible for providing holistic, empowering support to survivors of human trafficking with complex needs. This includes: • Identify through assessment needs and strengths of clients and create and implementing individual support plans • Ensure the use of anti-oppressive practice and empowerment to complete support plans with service users to ensure that agreed outcomes are identified • Maintain up to date, accurate and organised records using Snowdrop recording methods • Liaising in a professional manner with other relevant agencies such as police, solicitors, doctors, housing etc • Attend multi-agency meetings and represent Snowdrop Project at a community level, upholding the values of the organisation • Act as an advocate where necessary • Provide expert written or verbal trafficking reports where necessary appropriate for court or other legal purposes such as immigration cases • Ability to assess and manage risk, knowing how to provide crisis intervention and/or prevention support ensuring people are protected from harm, while protecting their human rights. • Respond appropriately to safeguarding disclosures, making referrals to statutory services where necessary • Take the lead on safeguarding referrals where neglect, abuse or exploitation is suspected 3.2. Assessing referrals: This role will work as part in regular case management team meetings. This includes: • Provide professional and critical insight in discussing complex case arrangements in situations which involve risk, complexity and safety of service users, volunteers and others • Assess whether referrals meet the charity criteria, the level of risk and help assignment to appropriate team members • Be able to challenge and receive challenge on professional opinion to come to agreed conclusions and action plans • Sustain good relationships with referring organisations 3.3. Coordinating and developing the volunteer casework team: This person will be expected to help recruit, train and supervise volunteer caseworkers. This includes: • Encourage and aid reflective practice on what has been done, what plans there are for future work and barriers to effective working • Facilitate open discussion on volunteer wellbeing creating a safe space for them to discuss their emotions and thoughts • Give constructive feedback and direction where necessary • Plan regular one-to-one supervisions and keep up to date records of each session • Provide guidance, signposting and emotional support to volunteers via meetings, phone calls and emails • Assess and identifying any safeguarding risks to the client and where necessary take the lead on safeguarding referrals • Participate in organising fun and useful bimonthly group supervisions • Maintain up to date volunteer records • Take responsibility for any initial conversations regarding volunteer misconduct and be willing and able to escalate this appropriately if necessary • Develop and deliver caseworker training 3.4. House Renovations: This role will play a key role in communicating the individual needs for each client’s house renovation with the Community Facilitator to ensure that each house has what is needed. 3.5. Snowdrop Team: To work with the team to coordinate excellent service delivery and support for volunteers and service users in line with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Snowdrop Project. This includes the following: • To participate in any team meetings and brainstorming sessions as part of the Snowdrop Team • To participate in fundraising and awareness raising drives • To undertake other duties as may be required and which are consistent with the nature of this role 3.6. Training and research: Where relevant, this role will contribute towards external training development and internal and external research to contribute towards furthering best practice. 4. Role Development The Snowdrop Project values investing in the continuing professional development of staff and volunteers. The direction this takes will depend on who is recruited. There is space for development within this role that we would like to explore upon successful appointment. PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Desirable Skills/Ability • Excellent written and oral • Ability to drive a communication skills and car/van with a current the ability to communicate drivers licence with a range of different people including service users, volunteers and other professionals. • Ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team • Ability to innovate and find creative solutions to challenges • Ability to delegate and follow through • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and complete them efficiently • Excellent record keeping skills Experience • Experience working with • Experience working vulnerable people, BAME with interpreters community, Asylum seekers • Experience of project and/or refugees in the monitoring and community evaluation • Experience working with • Working with survivors individualised care plans of human trafficking in • Experience supervising the community others, confidence giving and receiving feedback in a supervisory role • Experience dealing with safeguarding issues Qualifications • 5 GCSEs A-C (including English) • A degree in a relevant field such as social work, counselling, psychology/sociology, law or at least 3 -5 years of experience in a similar field Knowledge • IT Literacy, proficiency with • Knowledge of the UK Microsoft Office, specifically systems that surround working knowledge of Excel trafficking • Knowledge of the complex • Working knowledge of issues surrounding empowering support vulnerable adults/refugees and asylum seekers • A healthy understanding of professional boundaries in practice Personal • Organised with a good qualities/attitude attention to detail • Values integrity and transparency • Values the individual • Passion for the charity sector • Disciplined at managing own time and workload • Values collaboration and is able to give and receive feedback .
